The Pit Bull thing is great because it is much the same as most if our problems: eminently solvable, the solution has no real downsides, and the only reason we don’t press the “solve everything easily switch” is a lack of will Pit bulls are irrationally violent by nature, and as such impossible to trust. They always could and often do just fly off the handle, and wreak immense havoc and carnage as they do so. They account for the vast majority of dog attacks. They have no positives: unlike German Shepherds and other potentially violent dogs, they aren’t stable enough to really be trained into being reliable pets. They’re just loose cannons There’s no reason to keep them around. The obvious solution is to just euthanize them and ban the breeds, along with its cousins (the XL Bully, for example). Problem solved. No downsides But we don’t do that. We lack the will. So instead one always has to keep one’s head on a swivel when put in public, as there are almost always pit bull owners with poorly behaved dogs on a string leash, and that tho g could turn into a missile and maul anyone around at the drop of a hat
