RT @AlexanderGRubi2@twitter.com: There are great accounts that feature pretty things, be they art or architecture, and admirable ones who disseminate practical skills and all but forgotten craft. But few combine it all into exquisitely artistic, but deeply practical and actionable plans like @Wrath Of Gnon does. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/d18c34e4612b73ae2aafffd7d5974af1a38d162820f946c3200202741ef003b8.file

Tokyo Metro Tozai Line being built in early 1968, and what it looks like today. The station at the bottom right is Gyotoku station, just inside Chiba after having crossed from Tokyo. This section of the Metro is above ground. The best preserved Hellenistic city walls are the Walls of Timoleon in Caltanissetta, Italy, built 339-317 B.C., const to protect the city of Gela, which had a population of 100,000 at its peak. The walls were originally over 4,000m long but today only 360m remain. The surviving part was covered in sand dunes until 1948, hence the unique preservation of the upper adobe brick part of the wall which usually never survives unprotected and unmaintained. Originally up to 13m tall, of which 8m survives. The bottom part is two sides of finely quarried sandstone into which a clay and rubble stone mix has been tampered down in the emplekton style (similar to the later Roman wall style). https://hell.twtr.plus/media/02a7eca5e977210df34b6abd09f194a5f05cc2ed52963a3d876a32673b3fbf54.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/d7508082992d1242f2b9fce3d6fc107c0bb64f77aef135691b8e6d5a3e6dd844.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/b9f256adee2916ea1c1c5af75fbbde49abad1d1f53d37ab589c4625261217e65.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/f4a420cc2e108467e6c3eb6a97e46977ab80e6166c9f1a7c46b8bc0a5157792a.file

The towns of Sambiase and Nicastro in Lamezia Terme, Calabria, Italy, are largely built in adobe. The walls are sandwiched clay adobe bricks with a lime and clay mix core and mortar. The buildings are mostly 4-5 floors, narrow streets to keep the sun out during intense summers. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/7dac7a20a2ef81d0af221f04645878dd0e148d4e07d23464e34f82a8a81e70ea.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/44cb62a1dec4ea59c1945f4fd1b508b61bbf2f7a7101d0f9f320b4837ceea13d.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/a8713f0b42b35b678ed06149614771b9e0bdce5886d53ff4ff4a8eeed7611ac7.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/2e5a8c961012e2d0ce6a71c832a1533941dc6fe5a0a0805271c8731c58350699.file

"Taking the lesson from Sumatra, this shows that a climate resilience strategy cannot rely solely on levees, dams, or emergency responses. We must rebuild the ecological infrastructure that regulates water flow." https://hell.twtr.plus/media/9516cb64fa3c34b5cbc9f948af72762d03b1ab9942be08bfc88a34128c2dc1dc.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/a1b977e0e6708b848b469949182ebc1dadcd84ccc5d5fc7f385df003cc9fadcb.file
