Every time I post something like "houses today is only built to last 30 years" I get a ton of responses in the manner of "but my house is 70 years old and doing fine". Lucky you. Your house was built by trained craftsmen with centuries of experience between them of working with good tools and high quality materials well adapted to the local climate and meant to be maintained. The buyers of new homes today are not so lucky. Fast growth wood stick frame wrapped in plastic almost specifically for the purpose of catching moisture and encouraging rot and mold, assembled by men who have little or no experience no training and not even an IKEA level of manual, using caulk and nail-guns. And every single piece of kit that goes into the home comes with fineprint: "guaranteed only to manufacturer quality, no responsibility take to installation method." Your house might be fine if every joint and every caulk is installed 100% correctly 100% of the time. And how likely is that? And before you opine, yes there are many many exceptions of excellent house builders and craftsmen and customers (you) who knows what to ask for. But most aren't like you.
