#ICE agent who shot #ReneeGood gets more than $1M by Randall, January 16, 2026 "The ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good in #Minneapolis is receiving support from #conservative activists to the tune of more than $1 million. "The Daily Mail reports two separate campaigns have generated more than 21,000 donations for Officer Jonathan Ross on two different platforms- GoFundMe and GiveSendGo. Ross is married to a woman whose parents are from the Philippines. "A similar campaign for Good shut down after raising $1.5 million. "According to the Peoria Journal Star, Clyde Emmons created the GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Ross who attended Peoria High School. " 'I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a go fund me,' Emmons said in his post. 'Funds will go to help him.' [!!!] "Emmons told the Star he has spoken to Ross’ father but has not talked to Ross himself. "Among those who have contributed to the campaign is #billionaire #BillAckman. "He called the incident a tragedy and that he tried also to donate to Ross, but the campaign closed before he could. "The organizer of the GiveSendGo campaign is #TomHennessey who described Good as a “radical leftist agitator.' 'I don't trust that water plant': Hundreds evacuated so far from #FirstNation in northern #Ontario With half of 2,300 residents already out, CBC was in the #Cree FirstNation to report on how people are coping Jonathan Migneault · CBC News · Posted: Jan 16, 2026 11:58 AM EST | Last Updated: January 16 Excerpt: "The streets are quieter in #Kashechewan First Nation. "Some children are still playing hockey outside on a snow-packed road, but that would have been more common just three weeks earlier. "About half of the 2,300 people living in the remote fly-in community in northern Ontario have already left for cities to the south — including Timmins, Ont., Kingston and Niagara Falls — as part of evacuation efforts that began earlier this month. "It's all because of concerns over the aging and damaged water-treatment plant in the Cree First Nation. "On Jan. 4, Chief Hosea Wesley declared a state of emergency. People were told not to drink the water and the plant effectively shut off the taps providing it to their homes. "Technicians with #NorthernWaterworks were brought in to repair the damage and worked to get the water running again. But they're awaiting test results from a lab in North Bay for health authorities to determine if the water is safe to drink. "Adrian Sackaney still doesn’t trust the local water supply. "He goes to the nearby Albany River, which flows into James Bay, to collect large chunks of ice "Every day, Sackaney hauls that ice to his home with a snowmobile so it can be put to use when it melts. " 'I use that ice for my kids to take a bath,' Sackaney said. 'It's hard work to go get ice too … I don't trust that water plant right now.' "While evacuations continue, Sackaney plans to stay behind." Future looks bleak for #Anihšināpēmowin, other language programs at #FirstNationsUniversity “It's been a challenge, and I felt let down by FNU,” a student says Darla Ponace · CBC News · Posted: Jan 16, 2026 6:00 AM EST | Last Updated: January 16 Excerpt: "For nearly two decades, Lorena Lynn Cote has taught Anihšināpēmowin at First Nations University of Canada. "Cote, an assistant professor in the Department of Indigenous Languages, said she's losing faith in the university's commitment to ensuring the restoration and revitalization of the #Saulteaux language. "When she first started teaching there, she was proud to say she worked at a university where #Indigenous students could re-learn their languages and even get degrees in Indigenous languages in hopes of keeping them alive, but things have changed over the years, Cote said. "The only language degree now offered is in #Cree, and other languages are no longer being taught at higher levels, she said. "She is sad and feels hopeless in the fight to keep advocating for the language program her aunt helped to create, Cote told CBC News. " 'Our language classes have been getting cancelled,' she said. 'We do offer the 100 and 101, and that's just basic introductory language.' "#OneidaNation of #Wisconsin’s Chairman Tahassi Hill, in an email to #CBCIndigenous, wrote that every nation should have the power to determine its own vision and values. "Last month, #PrairieBand #PotawatomiNation in #Kansas announced it had cancelled a US $29.9 million contract for planning, research and concept designs for secure structures that its corporation had with ICE, and had fired senior members of the corporation's leadership.
