Reform-positive polling company just happens to be based out of the party’s old offices On January 4, [Zia Yusuf][1] – Reform UK’s head of policy – [posted a new poll][2] on his social media. It suggested that UK voters trusted his party the most to run the UK’s economy. In fact, the results showed that a staggering 39% of respondents trusted [Reform UK][3] with Britain’s finances. For contrast, 36% trusted the [Tories,][4] and 34% believed the current [Labour][5] government was a safe pair of hands. > [🚨] New poll from Merlin Strategies shows Reform most trusted to run the economy. > > Huge narrative violation for the mainstream media! So, what gives? Why does the UK public show such trust in a party that has demonstrated that it can’t even keep on top of spending in a local council, never mind the country? That was it, one of your (Reform’s) board members had that very same address. > > But I’m sure there was something else. Oh, that’s it! You (Reform) had that as your address! What are the chances? Reform has the same address as Merlin Strategy. Merlin Strategy that happened to have discovered today that you are the most trusted party! Now, we should not that that “*has* the same address” there is a bit of sleight-of-hand. Reform 2025 Ltd is [currently registered to][12] Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London. It changed its address from 83 Victoria Street back on [22 August 2024][13]. Likewise, Paul Richard Oakden, formed director of Reform 2025, resigned on [12 August 2024][14]. His correspondence address was registered to 83 Victoria street, as were four other officers for Reform 2025, the rest of whom [resigned back in 2019][15]. At the time, it was known as [The Brexit Party Limited][16]. ## The Reform plot thickens Now, it should also be noted that 83 Victoria Street is a serviced office space. [Its website offers:][17] > Seven floors of flexible workspace, with suites from 1-100 desks, providing quality private offices for companies of all sizes. As such, it could be entirely coincidental that Merlin Strategy is registered to the same address that Reform formerly occupied. Suspicious, but nothing more than that. Elite tantrums over Maccabi Tel Aviv keep missing the point [Establishment][1] [politicians][2], [fascists][3], and [Israel][4] [lobbyists][5] are still trying to stir up outrage over the 2025 decision to [stop Maccabi Tel Aviv hooligans entering Birmingham][6]. But whether intentionally or not (we suspect it’s the former), they keep completely missing the point. ## NO ISRAELI TEAM should be playing internationally during genocide The key point is about simple common sense. Because any ordinary person would completely back a ban on “[highly organised][7]” [hooligans][8] – from an [apartheid state][9] currently committing [genocide][10], no less – who proudly chant “[death to Arabs][11]”, [sing about rape][12], and [glorify genocidal actions][13]. Most ordinary people would probably also accept that no football team at all from a country committing horrendous war crimes should be playing in international competitions. After all, [FIFA and UEFA][14] [banned Russia][15] very quickly after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. In the 1980s, meanwhile, [UEFA actually stopped all football clubs in England from playing in Europe’s biggest competitions for five whole years][16] after a group of English fans caused the deaths of [39 people][17]. So when it wants to, it can give harsh punishments even outside a context of war crimes. [FIFA and UEFA corruptly and hypocritically dodging consistent calls to ban Israel][18] doesn’t make the apartheid state’s ongoing participation ok. Any ordinary person would be talking about that, rather than a decision to ban a controversial team. Israel apologists [inside][36] and [outside][37] the UK political system, however, are raging now about the fact that [police suspected there might be violence against Maccabi Tel Aviv fans][38] if they came to Birmingham. [Police knew][39] that [notoriously racist Israeli fans][40] entering a highly diverse city would be a [safety risk][41], and they acted. Does that mean all Maccabi fans would have been violent? No. Does that mean all people opposing genocide and Maccabi hooligans’ glorification of it would have been violent? No. But it does mean that it was a sensible police decision to avoid unnecessary unrest. Despite the ban, meanwhile, [Zionist][42] and [fascist][43] agitators still turned up in Birmingham for the match. But again, the issue isn’t this decision or this match. It’s not even [Maccabi Tel Aviv’s public history of racist violence][44] (one case of which [UEFA recognised and punished just in December 2025][45]) – or its [infamous actions in Amsterdam in 2024][46] in particular. And it’s not the [worsening][47] [pattern of racist][48] and [misogynistic behaviour][49] from Israeli fans in general. The issue is Israel’s colonial crimes, and the demand for accountability. The Maccabi Tel Aviv debate is just a storm in a teacup that Israel apologists have been stirring up to take focus away from the apartheid state’s genocide and ethnic cleansing. Charity Commision investigating transphobic Sex Matters Content warning: this article discusses child sexual abuse and people making fun of it. The charity regulator has said that they are investigating a transphobic organisation. In response to a complaint from [Good Law Project][1], the Charity Commission has confirmed there is an “ongoing case” against Sex Matters. Sex Matters describes itself as a “human rights charity”. However, they spend their time trying to make life harder for trans people. One of the co-founders is notorious TERF Maya Forstater and Lord Moldemort, JK Rowling is naturally a huge supporter. Good Law Project enquired whether there was an investigation following TERF Richard Dunstan’s online abuse of founder Jolyon Maugham. Good Law Project subsequently found out that Sex Matters, unsurprisingly, [platforms Dunstan][2]. ## TERF accuses trans ally of enjoying abuse On 24 November 2025 Dunstan posted[ a disgusting tweet][3] insinuating that Maugham “secretly enjoyed” the abuse he experienced as a young homeless teenager. “Gender Criticals” accusing those who support trans people of being perverted is not new, but claiming a victim enjoyed being raped is low even for them. [In a statement,][4] Maugham said > For a number of years, Mr Dunstan has pursued a toxic and invasive campaign against me and my family. This is the price you must pay for advocating for any marginalised group. Your choice is to learn to live with those attacks or to cease to do the advocacy. But I believe Mr Dunstan’s suggestion that I enjoyed being raped crossed a line. He continued > More broadly, his tweet perpetuates an enormously harmful myth about victims of abuse. It is revolting to suggest that a vulnerable child who is raped enjoys it. > > Mr Dunstan is not an anonymous troll. He has close relations with the leading anti-trans charity Sex Matters. The Times recently came to me for comment in relation to one of his allegations. And he is periodically quoted in the far-right blogosphere. Maugham said in the statement that he had referred Dunstan’s tweet to the police. As the *Canary* previously reported, thanks to fellow Terf Graham Linnehan, [the Met will no longer be investigating online hate.][5] However, this tweet can be used to build a wider case against Dunstan. Dunstan’s account has since been deleted. ## Investigation into Sex Matters is ongoing, but the terves pretend not to be rattled Responding to the enquiry, the Charity Commission told Good Law Project: > The issues you have raised have been passed to the Regulatory Compliance team to consider as part of our ongoing case into the charity. However, last night, Sex Matters attempted to soften the news by pointing out that the case was opened a year ago. Which doesn’t really make it any better, does it? [In a statement][6], Sex Matters said > A routine regulatory compliance case was opened a year ago in response to complaints made in relation to data collection when we tweeted a call for women to tell us about their experiences of men in women’s sport. The Charity Commission said that given the complaints received, and because Sex Matters is a newly registered charity, it was “keen to ensure the Charity is operating as effectively as it can and that the trustees are taking appropriate steps to protect its reputation”. The terves also reckon they knew nothing about Dunstan’s attack on Maugham until the Good Law Project linked them to it. Which is fucking convenient, isn’t it? ## TERF charities should not exist The last few years have seen mounting hostility and hatred towards trans people. This bile has been orchestrated by organisations such as Sex Matters and the terves who work there. Whether this investigation is new or not doesn’t matter. The fact that Sex Matters and orgs like it are allowed to continue attacking trans people is vile. The Charity Commission needs to do more than just a routine investigation to bring these ghouls to task. Terves like to say that trans people don’t exist. UK helps US seize Russian-flagged tanker in act of nuclear insanity The US has chased down and seized [an alleged ‘shadow fleet’ oil tanker][1] in the Atlantic. And the UK helped them. Originally bound for [Venezuela][2] under an Iranian flag, the Bella 1 never got to its destination. As it fled back across the ocean the crew allegedly changed it’s named to the Marinera and switched to a Russian flag. ## US seizes another tanker… with a little bit of help The UK initially refused to comment… then proudly admitted it helped the US. Gen Z are losing faith in democracy – and can you really blame them? Europe and the USA are losing faith in democracy and the future, [according to a new poll][1]. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Gen Z now has the most pessimistic views of the future – and who can fucking blame them? Actually, that ‘new poll’ bit isn’t quite true. Recently, the *Canary*reported on [survey results][2] indicating that UK voters regretted everything to do with [Brexit][3]. These results are from that same poll, but we thought they merited examination in their own right. So, to recap, Yonder Data solutions conducted the survey for FGS Global, a major public relations firm. Almost 20,000 people took part, of whom 11,714 were in the EU and 2,022 were in the UK. Notably, US Americans also participated – their reflections are relevant for this section, whilst they didn’t matter so much for the Brexit debate. ## Brits aren’t looking hopefully to the future Of the 27 countries surveyed, UK respondents were the most negative about their country’s future. In fact, 73% thought that the UK is ‘going in the wrong direction’. Of the British participants, two in every three (67%) thought that the UK’s best years were behind it. By contrast, just 14% said the best was still to come. Continuing the pessimistic trend, the [UK][4] was the country whose participants were least likely to agree that life would be better for the next generation. In fact, only around 10% thought that their children would have it better than them – vs 77% who disagreed. Following on from all this, UK participants – particularly Gen Z – were also more likely to believe that elections had little power to make their lives better. In total, 27% of British respondents believed that voting ‘made no difference, compared to 65% who said the opposite. Whilst this result still showed faith in democratic power, it was by far the lowest out of all the countries surveyed – including the USA. ## Gen Z losing faith in democracy The 27 countries surveyed all have (nominally) democratic governments. However, the majority of respondents believed that democracy itself is facing a crisis. Across the entire poll, 69% responded that democracy is losing power. Likewise, 69% also agreed that ‘strong leaders increasingly have more power than international institutions’. And, further than that, 74% supported the assertion that the system serves ‘a rich and powerful elite’ rather than the voters themselves. Meanwhile, in the UK specifically, some 79% of participants favoured democratically elected leaders. Conversely, 12% voiced a preference for ‘authoritarian leaders who do not bother with elections’. That worrying subset who favored authoritarianism was even more pronounced among the UK’s Gen Z – that is, people currently aged 14 to 29. 72% of that set favoured [democracy][5], vs 18% who sided with [authoritarians][6]. At the other end of the scale, 87% of Baby Boomers voiced support for democracy. ## Who can blame them? Now, of course, any number higher than 0% supporting authoritarianism is cause for concern. In particular, the fact that nearly one in every five of the UK’s youngest voting generation favour dictators is truly staggering. However, it’s not exactly difficult to see why Britain’s youth are losing faith in elections. For decades in this country, we’ve had a two-party political system in which both options are increasingly identical. [Labour][7] – our supposedly left-wing option – has been parroting [Tory][8] (and now Reform) right-wing talking points for years. Just look at their policies on [immigration][9], and [welfare][10], and [healthcare][11], and… well, you get the point. Why would a generation that’s only ever known elections that decide what colour wrapper the same old shit will come in have any faith in democracy to make things better? Meanwhile, Gen Z has also been shown time and time again that there are no consequences for world leaders who act with no regard for international law. Israel’s Netanyahu has [committed genocide][12] in front of our eyes, and the UK can’t even bring itself to condemn him. Meanwhile, Trump actively [tried to overthrow the US government][13] and got off Scott-free – and even got elected again. ## We must change, for good – for Gen Z The poll was conducted before the US invasion of [Venezuela][14] and kidnap of Maduro. However, if anyone wanted proof that authoritarianism carries no consequences, they’d need look no further than the [slimy UK politicians][15] [who refuse even][16] [to say that Trump][17] has clearly broken international law. So, sure – it’s easy to see why faith in democracy is waning, and for [Gen Z][18] most of all. However, authoritarianism cannot be the answer to this problem. Trump’s America has clearly shown that strong-arm leaders have no reason to care for the 99%. We must work to show that democracy is capable of delivering justice and positive change, now – before it is too late. Transport for London wheelchair space rules still aren’t enforced Another day, and another video of a disabled person unable to access public transport in London has gone viral. Transport for London (TfL) has said more needs to be done. They want to make sure that both drivers and customers understand the rules for wheelchair spaces on buses. But is this really happening? ## TfL drivers giving wrong information to disabled passengers This comes after yet another video of a parent trying to board a TfL bus with his [disabled][1] child has made it to the media. [The *BBC* reported that][2] Chris, a father who was taking his disabled son to a hospital appointment, was denied access to the bus. The reason for this is that buggies were occupying the space. However, the driver refused to make them move. In fact, the driver can be seen wrongly telling Chris: > The wheelchair has priority, but that’s if the space is empty This is obviously not true. In fact, the sign on the bus says that buggy users may be asked to fold or move if a wheelchair user requires the space. ## Against the law to refuse disabled passengers The Equality Act 2010 says that legally bus operators must make “reasonable adjustments” for disabled passengers. These include working ramps, correct information, priority spaces and seating. By law, wheelchair users have a right to that space. However, lack of awareness from drivers means that the law isn’t enforced. Because disabled passengers are entitled to priority spaces, drivers are required to ask non-disabled passengers to move. But far too often, this either doesn’t happen or they refuse. TfL told the *BBC* that the events in the video fell “way below” their expected standard > As soon as we became aware of this incident, we followed up with Transport UK, the bus operator, who investigated as a matter of urgency, speaking to the bus driver and reissuing guidance to all its drivers. Rebecca Trew, TfL’s head of bus delivery, told the *BBC* that the organisation is committed to providing training to the over 25,000 bus drivers in London. She says the training is to ensure they’re “aware of their legal obligations”. The training, Trew said, will include lived experience from disabled passengers who’ve struggled to use London buses. She also said that TfL’s bus driver handbook is also being updated and will be released later in the year. As always happens, the non-disabled people get outraged and then nothing changes. But what about the disabled adults who also face this every single day? Not only do the transport companies need to enforce their rules better, but they also need to stop pitting parents against disabled people. There should be space for both buggies and wheelchairs on buses. The government are constantly boasting about investment in travel. Yet, where’s the commitment to accessible travel? ## Nothing will change as long as the war on disabled people rages on One thing that disabled people experience far too often, alongside drivers refusing to enforce the rules, is nondisabled people’s selfishness. The unwillingness of non-disabled people to help or, even worse, abuse disabled people is another result of the disgusting ableist rhetoric in the media. Thanks to years of the rags and politicians acting like we want special treatment, the general public resents us wanting equal rights to them. Hunger striker Kamran Ahmed taken to hospital again as concerns for his health mount At 1am on 7 January, hunger striker [Kamran Ahmed][1], who is being held on remand at HMP Pentonville, was taken into hospital. Ahmed had results from an ECG which showed abnormal readings and was transferred to hospital with his next of kin being notified soon after. ## Ahmed taken to hospital again Since being on hunger strike Ahmed has now been hospitalised six times. The gaps between hospitalisation are becoming shorter as time passes. Ahmed enters his third month as he reaches day 59 of being on hunger strike. Counter-terrorism police arrested Ahmed in a violent dawn raid on 19 November 2024. During the raid police also denied food and medication to Ahmed’s elderly parents for hours. He was then remanded to prison after being charged with a non-terrorism related offence on allegations of being connected to the Filton action, which saw over £1 million in damage caused to [Elbit Systems][2]’ research centre for Israeli weapons, making him one of the Filton 24. During his time in prison, Ahmed’s fundamental rights have been consistently abused by the prison, including restrictions on visits and mail, being arbitrarily subjected to isolation and limited access to the prison library. [Heba Muraisi][3] remains on hunger strike and is now on 66 days of hunger striking. The public have been quick to strike a parallel with [66 days marking the day Bobby Sands died][4] from being on hunger strike at the hands of the British state. Muraisi has expressed an increase in sensation of feeling as though she is holding her breath and needing to remind herself to breathe. [T Hoxha][5], who previously was on hunger strike, began re-feeding on Saturday. She has been taken into hospital but friends and family are unaware of her whereabouts and currently unable to contact her. ## Sultana speaks up for hunger strikers As parliament resumed on 7 January, masses gathered outside, protesting for the hunger strikers and for the government to respond. Zarah Sultana MP provided the following statement: > Kamran Ahmed is at imminent risk of death. Today, on day 59 of his hunger strike, he has been hospitalised for the sixth time. In 1981, two of the ten IRA hunger strikers in British prisons died before reaching day 59. Two more died before day 61, and by day 73 all ten had passed away. > > Teuta Hoxha has also been hospitalised after ending her hunger strike yesterday, on day 58. She, too, is at imminent risk of death, and may be suffering complications related to re-feeding syndrome. > > The demands of the hunger strikers are entirely reasonable. They should not be in prison at all. They pose no threat to the public, have been held well beyond the standard 182-day pre-trial custody limit, and there is no justification for denying them bail. > > This is a political choice. It is an attempt by Keir Starmer’s Labour government to punish them before their cases go to trial – because the government knows a jury may well find that their actions were legal under the 1971 Criminal Damage Act, as previous juries have recognised that preventing genocide can constitute a lawful justification for property damage. > > Keir Starmer and David Lammy must act now to save Kamran’s life. They must secure immediate bail for Kamran, Teuta and for all Palestine prisoners being held on remand beyond the pre-trial custody limit. Time is running out. If they do not act swiftly, this Labour government will have yet more blood on its hands. Legal representatives IKP have sent another correspondence to request a meeting with David Lammy immediately. They’ve reiterated the grave danger and critical nature of the state of the hunger striking prisoners. The letter outlines the hunger strikers’ commitment to seeing this hunger strike through even with the added risks now that time has passed. Prisoners for Palestine’s Francesca Nadin states: > As the hunger strike reaches a critical stage, and the longest hunger striker has not eaten for over 2 months, we are extremely concerned about the hunger strikers’ health and wellbeing. > > It is an absolute disgrace that the government is determined to shoot itself in the foot by showing once again its lack of basic humanity and regard for both international law and the rights of its citizens. > > To save face, they would rather let these innocent young people die than simply have a meeting with us to discuss this situation. Yes, despite what some may think, they are innocent, until proven guilty. And he made a stinging point about the UK government’s [shocking lack of action][2]. ## Mothin Ali highlights government hypocrisy Ali has previously stated that he regards the hunger strikers as “[political prisoners][3]“. And, as the largest co-ordinated hunger strike in the UK [since 1981][4] continues, he’s making the point again: > Our government talks about mistreatment of political prisoners in other countries as though it has some moral authority, yet there are political prisoners in our own prisons. Eight of them joined the hunger strike, which began on 2 November 2025. Heba Muraisi has now been on hunger strike for 66 days. > > Their health is deteriorating to a point of no return. > > The government’s own guidance for holding people on remand is six months. These people have been in custody for as much as nearly two years. They should immediately be released on bail. The prisoners’ demands are as follows: 1. Shut Elbit Systems down. 2. Immediate Bail. 3. Right to a fair trial. 4. End prison censorship. 5. Deproscribe Palestine Action. The strikers demand the closure of all Elbit Systems sites and operations in the UK. Elbit Systems is an Israeli weapons manufacturer supplying 85% of the military equipment and drones, with key production taking place in the UK and exporting to Israel. Anger and indignation over the US kidnapping of Maduro on the streets of Caracas Friday 2 January was a typical day in Venezuelan [capital][1] Caracas. The roads were unusually quiet and few people were out on the streets, the city still slowing down after the New Year’s celebrations. Federico Melo, a resident of Prados del Este, a middle-class neighbourhood in the east of Caracas, decided to wait until Saturday to go out for some errands. Public transport would be more frequent and there was a better chance that shops would be open. In another part of the city, Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro spent part of his day meeting with Qiu Xiaoqi, the special envoy of Chinese president Xi Jinping for Latin America and the Caribbean. Nobody realised that in the early hours of Saturday 3 January they would witness one of the most dangerous and traumatic episodes Venezuela has experienced in decades. The US bombed several strategic locations in Caracas, as well as in Aragua State, La Guaira State and Miranda State, all within the vicinity of the Venezuelan capital. When [Maduro was kidnapped][2] by the [US elite Delta Force][3], minutes after the bombing began, the Chinese delegation was likely still in Caracas, while Venezuelans tried to make sense of what was unfolding around them. ## Noise like an earthquake Sofía Vargas (not her real name), noticed that the power went out at around 1am on that day. She, her husband and her son were still awake at the time. She says the bombing began at approximately 1.30am, with thunderous sounds unlike anything she had ever heard before. At first, she thought it was an earthquake. The building where she lives, on the fourth floor, began to shake, along with everything inside her flat. Living close to the military base Fuerte Tiuna, an area officially classified as a “strategic zone” and one that was heavily bombed by the US, meant Sofía was close enough to the main attack. What she heard that night still haunts her. She said: > I thought all the windows in the flat would shatter. At first, we all ran downstairs and out of the building. We could hear aircraft, planes or helicopters, but we could not see anything. The noise felt as if it was right above us. My son had a panic attack. Eventually, we decided to go back to our flats and wait for the news. Sofía also noticed that since the attack, the macaws, parrots, parakeets and doves that used to gather every morning in the building’s gardens have not returned. It is now known that electricity was cut across much of Caracas after US forces struck a power station supplying five major areas of the city, including Sofía’s neighbourhood. According to some of her neighbours, there were also incidents near the historic centre of Caracas, where buildings such as the Presidential Palace of Miraflores, the Vice Presidency, the Foreign Ministry and the Central Bank of Venezuela are located. ## US attack propels a wave of patriotism across Venezuela Melo told me that there is now a strong and widespread feeling of patriotism and solidarity with Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. The most politically organised sectors, such as the Patriotic Pole, which supported Maduro in last year’s presidential elections, and the PSUV, Maduro’s party, have been the most vocal. However, he says the indignation over the US attack extends far beyond these groups: > To this you have to add the anger caused by Trump’s statements, which humiliated > Venezuela and treated it as if it were a US colony. He also noted that Venezuelan neo fascist groups appear to be on the defensive, which he described as unusual: > After an attack like this, you might expect them to celebrate, as has happened in a few cities around the world. But in Venezuela that has not been the case, perhaps because of the humiliating way Trump rejected Maria Corina Machado’s supposed leadership. What we have seen instead are threats and hate messages on social media, which have generated rejection rather > than fear. According to Melo, politicians linked to neo fascist groups have failed to gain support from the rest of the opposition: > Today, during the televised debate in the National Assembly, we saw a sector of the opposition attempting to establish a political pact with the government. > > At the same time, parliamentarians linked to neo fascist groups continue to deny that Venezuela has a democratic system, despite having been elected to office by that same system they despise. On top of that, they are acting as if nothing has happened in the country. ## The marches in favour of Maduro continue Jouseline Rodriguez, who attended the march in Caracas on Sunday, the day after the US attack, echoed Melo’s assessment. She said that people marching in support of Maduro and Flores were deeply angry and indignant: > People are also feeling heartened by the strength shown by our President Nicolás Maduro. He is a man with spiritual force. We can imagine the things they are doing to him now to humiliate him, but you can see that he remains strong and resolute. Rodriguez told me that demonstrators were demanding the release of Maduro and Flores, and their return to Venezuela, emphasising that he was elected by the majority of Venezuelans as their president: > We do not deny the existence of an opposition. But the majority of the Venezuelan people are Chavistas, and we showed wisdom and restraint by not going out to burn cars or destroy the streets to express our frustration. This respect for life and for Venezuelan institutions is something the international community should recognise. She also pointed out that even opposition supporters, whom she estimates make up around 15 percent of the population, did not take to the streets to cause unrest, as they did in the days following the 2024 presidential elections: > The area next to the Presidential Palace of Miraflores was not bombed or attacked, but some drones exploded in the air nearby. We still do not know whether they were repelled. I do not think they were repelled. I think they were detonated in the air by those controlling them. The objective of the explosions was to scare people. > > One drone fell near the entrance to the working class neighbourhood 23 de Enero, breaking part of a building. There were no fatalities, but the incident was deeply shocking. The Cuartel de la Montaña, where the body of former president Hugo Chávez lies, was not damaged. > > Monday’s march went from Bellas Artes, passing through Avenida Universidad and ending at the National Assembly. Sunday’s march went from Plaza La Candelaria along Urdaneta Avenue to the Presidential Palace of Miraflores. In both marches, entire avenues were packed with people. Rodriguez also noted that on Monday morning the main road leading to the National Assembly was cordoned off, as it formed part of the march route. She clarified that while access to the Presidential Palace of Miraflores is restricted to vehicles, pedestrians can still pass through, and much of central Caracas remains walkable: > There are security forces throughout the area and across Caracas, but they are not stopping people. They are simply carrying out routine security to prevent access to normally restricted zones. Rodriguez added that on Tuesday there will be a march of women in Caracas in solidarity with Maduro and Flores, with members of grass roots movements and communes, mostly from Caracas, expected to attend. As with previous marches, details have spread largely by word of mouth. ## Venezuelans are prepared in case of further attacks Cira Pascual, a community educator at Pluriversidad, the community based training centre of the El Panal commune in Caracas, and a member of the International Network for Communal Democracy, said that the Venezuelan people’s response to the kidnapping of Maduro has been clear and profoundly political, but also marked by a commitment to calm and conscious struggle: > From the very beginning, the imperialist attack was interpreted for what it is: a direct aggression against national sovereignty and against a people who have decided not to kneel. > > During these days, there have been constant mobilisations. On the day of the vile attack, people spontaneously gathered at Miraflores Palace. Pascual told us that in recent days, in a way she described as unprecedented and characteristic of the Bolivarian Revolution, organised popular power has taken on the task of territorial defence alongside the Bolivarian National Armed Forces: > The people’s militias are protecting their communes, not through violence, but through a deep awareness that sovereignty is defended collectively. Pascual, who is also a co author of the book series Communal Resistance Against the Imperialist Blockade, confirmed she has not seen a single person in the streets, on public transport or in everyday conversations celebrating the kidnapping of Maduro and Flores: > Even broad sectors of the opposition have expressed their rejection of this imperialist attack, aware that it is a threat that transcends political differences and directly targets the right of peoples to decide their own destiny. Melo added that the majority of people are out on the streets showing solidarity. The communal movement, made up of organised communities alongside members of political parties aligned with the Venezuelan government, forms the vanguard of the Bolivarian Revolution and is ready to defend the country against any aggression. Pascual stated the attack against Venezuela is not an isolated incident but part of a broader offensive against the peoples of Latin America, particularly those who challenge an imperialist order whose hegemony is under strain: > The popular response is not only Venezuelan. It is profoundly Latin Americanist. Here, Maduro is defended, yes, but so is the very possibility of a sovereign, just and free Greater Homeland. Finally, Rodriguez warned that if the US attacks again, the Venezuelan army will not be caught off guard. However, she said an attack on the civilian population would result in catastrophic bloodshed: > If US forces try to come in and stay, we are more than ready to face them. They will not leave Venezuela alive. Not a single drop of oil will go to the US. They will face one, two or even three Vietnams.
