This warms my heart. ♥️ In Denmark, on the island of Fanø, voters elected Benjamin Strand Andersen for the city council. Benjamin lives with Cerebral Palsy, a condition which means his voice shakes and his gait is not perfect — something people sometimes mistake for mental impairment. But on Fanø, the locals know him as a good guy, and he won 1 of only 11 city council seats for the environmentally focused party @npub10380...al8h. Where there is a will, there is a way — also in politics.

Winter is coming, and Denmark has literally set up a night watch, to keep an eye out for Trump’s soldiers on the horizon. It is like Game of Thrones but with the Truth Social Night Poster instead of The Night King beyond the wall.

This scientific experiment is quite interesting. Researchers want to find out, which species are intelligent enough to figure out that a mirror is a reflection of themselves. So they place a mark on an animal to see if they realize this mark is actually placed on themselves. It turns out only 8 species pass the test.

I do not understand why American media find themselves unable to have a meaningful conversation on pejoratives, because they cannot even utter the words they want to discuss. If someone called me “pink pig” because I am white, I would find that offensive. But I cannot find it offensive to have a meaningful conversation about why the term “pink pig” should not be directed at anyone. In the clip below, they are discussing Trump calling Walz a “retard”. The BBC sensors a lecture by historian Rutger Bregman to avoid offending Donald Trump. In one line, Bregman says Trump is the most openly corrupt president in US history. Because that is what Bregman's research shows. But the BBC values Trump's feelings over facts, and has now cut this sentence from the lecture.

This is why I love Mastodon so much: I asked how to translate the Danish expression "En nærliggende tanke", and dozens of people confirmed it does not exist in English, and gave good examples of alternatives. Interestingly, as @npub1m7ed...73d2 mentioned, it does exist in German: "ein naheliegender Gedanke". You guys are awesome! ♥️

I am shocked by how fast credit card issuers in Denmark block credit cards based on a hunch. I have now twice had a card blocked, because their AI system saw a "suspicious usage pattern". Both times it was just me using my card normally. It is deeply problematic, because you get no warning. You are just standing in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country, and suddenly you cannot pay the cab to the airport, because the AI God has spoken. Is it like this in your countries as well?
