1/ There are reports Donald Trump is going to end birth right citizenship in the United States. This has been a long standing goal of far right movements for quite some time. A trial balloon was floated here in Canada during the Harper govt of ending birth right citizen under the guise of stopping maternity tourism. A so called phenomenon where wealthy Asian family's where flying to Canada to have their children to secure citizenship. The idea was abandoned after severe backlash.

There's a lot of talk about BlueSky exploring different revenue models including advertising. Large centralised media is always going to need a a large revenue stream to operate. The beauty of Mastodon et al is that the load of running the entire thing is spread out and consequently so is the cost. With very little technical knowledge you can run an instance for you and your friends for almost nothing and participate in the entire fediverse. No revenue model is needed, just community.
