Oh my! The scam wave has changed to trying to entice people to click on links by offering a monetary scheme for making posts, they just need to verify your account to set it up. You probably already know the fedi does not have money for this type of thing, but just in case: Always check what sort of account you are dealing with, and what they are offering before you click on any links. There is no monetary scheme for posting on the fediverse. And if something looks too good to be true, it usually is a scam.

A tip to minimise the impact of spam & scam accounts for Mastodon users: Log in to your Mastodon account from a browser, go to notifications, hit the up/down arrows top right & go through the filter settings & save changes. Key points to consider using filter or ignore on: new accounts - most scam accounts are new - it will limit new users interacting with you, prioritise as *you* see fit Unsolicited private mentions Moderated accounts Do what works for you, your account, preferences & with your server.
