8 January 1894 | Fr. Maximilian Kolbe, OFM, was born in Zduńska Wola. As a prisoner of #Auschwitz at the end of July 1941, he sacrificed his life to save a person selected for starvation death after an escape. 7 January 1921 | A Czech Jew Pavel Friedmann was born in Prague. A student & poet. In #Theresienstadt ghetto in 1942 he wrote a poem "Butterfly". Deported to #Auschwitz on 29 September 1944. He did not survive.

7 January 1938 | French Jewish boy Pierre Deutsch was born in Paris. He arrived at #Auschwitz on 10 December 1943 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from #Drancy. He was among 661 of them murdered after selection in a gas chamber.

7 January 1912 | Pole Bolesław Świderski was born. A journalist. In #Auschwitz from 20 June 1940. No. 952 In 1943 he was transferred to KL Neuengamme. He survived the war.
