8 September 1886 | A Dutch Jew, Meijer Smeer, was born in Amsterdam. A musician, conductor. He arrived at #Auschwitz on 27 January 1944 in a transport of 948 Jews deported from #Westerbork. He was among 689 of them murdered in a gas chamber.

8 September 1909 | Pole Józef Noji was born in Pęcków. An Olympian, multiple champion of Poland in the 5000, 10000 & cross country running but also a carpenter & tram driver. 8 September 1915 | Italian Jewish woman, Milena Modigliani, was born in Livorno. She was deported to #Auschwitz from Milan on 30 January 1944 with her son Paolo. They were both murdered in a gas chamber after the arrival selection.

8 September 1929 | A German Jewish girl, Elinor Oettinger, was born in Hamburg. She emigrated to the Netherlands. 7 September 1911 | Norwegian Jew, Elias Gorvitz, was born in Kristiania (now Oslo). A plumber. In #Auschwitz from 1 December 1942. He was held in the Golleschau sub-camp, from where, as a sick prisoner, he was transferred to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where he perished.
