17 July 1864 | A, Italian Jewish woman, Clotilde Nissim (nee Levi), was born. She arrived in #Auschwitz on 6 February 1944 in a transport of 700 Jews deported from Milan and Verona. She was among 572 of them murdered in a gas chamber after the selection. image

On 17 July 1942, the SS Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler began a two-day inspection of the Auschwitz camp. On the first day, the camp commandant Rudolf Höss described him the state of development of the camp. Himmler visited also the entire 'zone of interest' of the camp. In Birkenau he saw prisoners at work, the living barracks, kitchen and infirmary as well as emaciated victims of the epidemic. image
