A small flock of western sandpipers (Calidris mauri) were foraging for small crustaceans, seeds, and insects at low tide. They were moving quickly. I was determined to get photos at eye level without disturbing their search. Knowing in which direction they were going, I moved there and laid down. Because I was not towering over them, they didn't feel threatened.
This photo is in my photo book Wild Vancouver Island.

A rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa) spotted by a client on a private photo tour a couple of years ago. We both ended up lying on the muddy ground to get photos at eye level. π

A beautiful encounter during a recent photo tour on Vancouver Island.
It's a photo that I had imagined for years: an owl on a mossy branch.

Here's a female common Merganser (Mergus Merganser) with some of her ducklings. Photographed a few years ago in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, BC.

Since I am no longer a vendor on Sundays at the Campbell River market, it's having an impact on the sales of my photo book Wild Vancouver Island. If you like nature and wildlife photography and you are curious about species living on Vancouver Island (bear, otter, orca, mink, marmot, bald eagle...), you can order my book here:
I took this photo of a bald eagle from the top of a cliff with a telephoto lens. It was looking down and around for a prey, possibly fish in the sea below.
