Bald eagle feeding an eaglet with a small piece of freshly-caught fish. The second eaglet is behind the mature eagle and waiting for its turn to be fed. Photo taken earlier this week on Vancouver Island. Edit: I used a telephoto lens and the photo is cropped. #BirdsOfMastodon #wildlife #photography #VancouverIslandWildlife #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #birds #PNW image
A family of bald eagles with a view of the Salish Sea. What you don't see on this image are the flies that are attracted by remnants of food in the nest. I went to visit them this week and I am happy to report that they are doing well. #BirdsOfMastodon #photography #wildlife #VancouverIslandWildlife #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #SalishSea #eagles #birds image
This is the fun part to observe when eaglets grow up and start stretching these big wings. It's awkward. The second eaglet watches and learns. As they build confidence, they make short lift-off in the nest and ''fly'' from one end to the other. This photo was taken in early May. #BirdsOfMastodon #nature #photography #wildlife #VancouverIslandWildlife #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #WildlifeWednesday image

This summer I'm offering several one-day photography tours on Vancouver Island. Spend the day in the temperate rainforest amongst giant moss-covered trees and lush fern and on the rugged coast where wildlife is busy caring for their offspring. Tours are limited to 3 participants for a better experience and reduced impact on the wildlife and ecosystems. The grizzly sow and her two cubs observed for the first time on Vancouver Island last summer have been seen together again in April and until a week ago. When I visited that area on Monday, I saw only one of the cubs. No sign of the sow and the other cub. There could be two reasons: the cubs are now on their own because they are old enough to fend for themselves or they've been illegally killed by individuals / entities that don't want grizzlies to settle on the island. Looking for the answer...
May 29 is #WorldOtterDay Can you tell the difference between a river otter and a sea otter? 🤔 #wildlife #photography #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #VancouverIslandWildlife
