Every so often, I "check in" with fedi friends - people with whom I've enjoyed chats over the years - from whom I haven't heard in a while, messaging them just to see if they are okay.*
I realised last night that there were three or four people that I thought that I had not seen for ages, and sure enough, either active but silent profiles, or else 404ing profiles on now-dead servers, which is a real shame.
* I know that some people don't like this kind of message, as they feel pressured to reply when already short on time; I try to keep notes on this, as causing a nuisance is the last thing I intend here.
