New blog post: "The term 'NSFW' is problematic and overdue for retirement" I've been pondering this for a while now, and finally found some time to put my thoughts down in writing. tl;dr: it is stigmatising/dismissive, and doesn't help people make informed decisions. More specific descriptions are preferable.
New blog post: "Fixing a fatal git error when upgrading LiberaForms to v4.2.0 by changing my git config origin from Gitlab to Codeberg" tl;dr: @npub1dmne...u8jd changed from Gitlab to Codeberg recently, and I needed to update my git config accordingly. Written in case it helps anyone else! #blog #Linux #selfhosting #FOSS #git
@npub1z23d...qh88 Coming next: - where is your modern slavery statement - have you publish an anti-bribery policy
It is perhaps no particular surprise that the UK trade body for age assurance services - product to shift! - argues that service providers within the scope of the #OnlineSafetyAct should subject users with VPNs to additional surveillance, with no mention of over-blocking or data protection law. > Digital services using age assurance to remain compliant, can do so by detecting VPN use, assessing risk using behavioural clues, and giving flagged users the option to verify their age or prove their location
Apparently the UK's Department for Science, Industry, and Technology has told some service providers that they are Online Safety Acting incorrectly, and have to do more to protect freedom of expression. Parliament chose to implement only token protections for freedom of expression, against far more substantive obligations around restriction of expression, so really no surprises here. Enforcement will, I suspect, be rather challenging. #OnlineSafetyAct
I really rather like GNOME. My current desktop environment of choice. Thanks @GNOME!
> Age verification: what’s the harm? If you have not read @Girl on the Net's latest post about the #OnlineSafetyAct , that's your evening sorted. (G has been on the receiving end of Parliament's attempt at defining "pornographic content", so writes from her own direct experience.)
Tomorrow, I will be doing the tech support equivalent of juggling while riding a unicycle (which I can do :)): Troubleshooting a printer problem over the phone. Thoughts and prayers, please. πŸ–¨οΈ
