I took the chance to play the DLC since why not, I already spent way too long on the mess of a base game. Immediately though, the DLC caught me off guard since I was expecting more of the same shit from the base game. Nope, the DLC is so much better.
To give a few indicators, things are much more stylish in the DLC. The menus and scenes for doughnut making actually feel like they were made around the idea of a stylish shop. Leagues ahead of any of the base game stuff. The battles too, every bit of the story feels more meaningful and fights tend to feel more deserved. Characters have a lot more mid fight dialogue now, any teams of characters actually get team names instead of just being name & name. Everyone feels more animated, the camera moves around a lot more to emphasize scenes or show off whoever is talking. Apparently they even touched up the lighting system in an update to the base game too, not mind blowingly good but I was a little surprised to see sunlight somewhat reflect off some metal.
It's also really weird playing a pokemon with an actual postgame that tries to emphasize the fact it is postgame. You practically need to be level 100 to start exploring hyperspace zones, since the doughnuts only give minimal level boosts to be able to keep you alive. Trainers also start around level 75 at the start of the DLC, and only get higher from there. Hyperspace ends up feeling actually dangerous at times, your pokemon can and will lose fights in some cases even if you have a perfect stat spread (which I did bother getting for the hell of it) due to the sheer power of the over-leveled hyperspace pokemon. Hyperspace in general feels like taking the good parts of the battle zones and applying them to wild zones. Missions, side objectives, a time limit to force actual learning, etc.
Short addition, Ansha is cute. She arrives with a hell of a dream and Hoopa of all things, and then takes over the hotel to start making doughnuts. It's fun watching her move around with how lively yet self assured she is. She runs directly into hyperspace with not even a single thought on her mind about the idea it could possibly dangerous. Also great watching her spend most her time in an apron cooking, and I could use this to make a low quality joke about her being a good housewife.
