Farewell Okra, we barely knew thee. I never realized until this year that Okra was sensitive to fusarium wilt, but there it is. Won't be growing that near here anytime soon. Anyway, it's all cleaned out now and on it's way to an incinerator. Good thing this spot is at the far bottom of my garden plot so I can avoid it without too much difficulty. 😬 #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w
One of the "weeds" that tends to colonize my squash patch this time of year is the Asian Flatsedge, (Cyperus microiria) . I think it to be quite a beautiful, elegant plant and am fascinated by it. Shame it's an exotic invasive around here. Well, it all goes in the compost, eventually! #gardening #Botany #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w
BeetBear and I took advantage of the cool, dry weather again this morning to finish the butternut squash harvest. He will now go through what we have piled up in the garage and select the "keepers" for storage and the rest will be shared out. He'll give us an update when he's done. πŸ˜€ #BeetBear #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w
The sweetcorn may be done for the year, but the rest of the garden is still producing enough for me to set out some more surplus for the neighbors. Starting to harvest butternut squash now, so I have to figure out where to store it all. πŸ˜€ #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w image
Well, it started on July 26th with our first picking, and ended today, one month later, with our last picking for the year. Lots of good eats along the way. BeetBear has declared the harvest over and it was a great year, but lots of work. It's going to be a long wait for our next corn crop to start!πŸ˜€ 🌽 #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear #SweetCorn @npub1v5ap...ny6w
A beautiful day here today, cool, sunny and dry. A perfect time to start the butternut squash harvest. Haven't counted anything yet but there's about 75 pounds (34 kilos) sitting there waiting to get picked up. Still over half of the area yet to clear. Chopping up vines and weeds is filling up compost bin nicely. πŸ˜€ #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #compost #Cucumbers @npub1v5ap...ny6w
Got some stuff set out for the neighbors this afternoon. The last 3 cukes, what is probably the last okra, some jalapeΓ±os, eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, and squash. More corn tonight but we're getting to the end now. Maybe one more picking, two if I'm lucky. Only counting these as 8 ears tonight. Will post pix of the rejects later. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear #SweetCorn @npub1v5ap...ny6w
