where the river should be
it's a blow even when there's no fist
light filling the bellies of cats
stretched out for worship
skies wide, elastic, shivered
gorgeous vapour scars
something happened
not quite wrong but not right
blood perhaps, words or silence
a stink and burnt-rubber swallow
the air gets worn down
leaning on you for support
knuckle scars, crushed cigarette
dice, fast food, red on steel
outside, time pent
patient to make this true
