This. “I think that the rush to video is possibly the biggest lowlight, not just for last year, but the biggest lowlight in the last five years of the industry. It’s just such a short-sighted move, if you’ll pardon the pun, and I just think it’s wholly and truly the wrong thing.” #podcasting https://bne.social/@james/113791533598405545
Hey this sounds bad: “The fact that the CEO of a car company or someone working on his behalf can—and did—remotely unlock a specific vehicle… is a stark reminder that while you may be able to drive your car, you increasingly do not own it, that the company that manufactured it can inject themselves into the experience whenever it wants, and that information from your private vehicle can be provided to law enforcement.”
Make #today the day you download Signal and start using it in lieu of other messaging apps, including texting from your phone. It’ll be more important than ever in 20 days. I’m evoterra.68, and it’s very much my preference for messaging.
#MorningAll and happy Boxing Day, whatever that is. And no, don’t tell me. I’ve been told many times and it refuses to cling to my brain. Knowing when it is is enough for me. I slept fine, which is a rarity the day after a holiday centered around food. But I didn’t overeat at all, thanks to the magic of a GLP-1 agonist. #Today is newsletter day (are you subscribed at ), Xmas stuff tear down, possibly a bike ride, and a workout. Courage & persistence. ✊
#MorningAll and happy(?) National Day of Mourning (aka Thanksgiving) Eve. Not to take anything (more) away from the peoples here before the colonizers showed up, but tomorrow will hit a little differently over the next few years. Or possibly decades. I’m going to be extra cranky for the first part of #today as I get bloodwork drawn at 10a, which means no snacks, meds, or 🧉 until after. 😠 Safe travels if you’re on the road. I wish you courage and persistence dealing with family. ✊
I finished my 2nd reading of Iain M. Banks’ ‘The Player of Games,’ the 2nd book in his #CultureSeries. One of the lessons (and there are many) is that power corrupts absolutely, and that the higher a person gets in privilege and power, the more depraved and disturbing their proclivities. Epstein Island? Not a fluke. A feature. Read it: @npub18vxh...5jv7 @bookstodon group #scif #books
I see it’s “embrace video or die” season in #podcasting once again, only this time it’s all in on closed systems. 🙄
I’m in the market for a new e-ink ebook reader not from Amazon or any other book reseller. I found Boox, and they look slick. But I’m having a hard time finding anything helpful in identifying what other options there are. So help me out, #FOSS and non-proprietary #ebook fans. What should I look at?
I’m told that BS is having a moment as people (finally) are bailing on the Nazi bar that Xitter has become. Cool. Good for them. But I like it here and will continue to post cool things here and follow cool people here, and do the other things as we continue to make this a cool place for we who care less about scale and more about about the quality of content, connections, and conversations. (And for the when the crypto bros enshittify BS.)
Here’s the mayor of St. Pa, Minnesota showing that not all politicians are feckless. https://med-mastodon.com/@bicmay/113482967339167937
