What’s interesting about Chichén Itzá is that it’s not a restoration..it’s a reconstruction
The Mexican government realized revenue potential and decided to spice it up with all new stones based on ideas from a British archeologists.
They marketed it and never told the public..
The original plan was that Mexico would allow the Carnegie institute to do research if they paid for the restoration… but so much of the stones had been looted that it turned out impossible.
