Frank McCourt points out the "loss of free will" as a consequence of the large tech platforms. Unusual, but I'm not disagreeing.
So if Threads is at over 100 million daily active users, Twitter used to have 217 million and hasn't really grown since (and perhaps fallen), Threads is now getting to the same ball park. Compare to about 5m on Bluesky, and not sure how many daily active users in the ActivityPub world.
I want a better social media where people getting their news only from that better social media are better informed, more correct, less likely to believe in conspiracies or somebody’s self-interested BS or propaganda. Oh, and take action based on that better understanding. I see zero reasons why this can’t be done. We just need to build it.
