Trump announced in a press conference that the United States will take direct control of governing #Venezuela, without any international supervision or transitional phase, exercising full control over state institutions and determining the timing of returning power to the people solely according to the American decision.
He revealed that Delta Force units abducted President Nicolás Maduro and his wife from their home at night, transported them to a U.S. aircraft carrier and then to the United States to stand trial on drug trafficking and weapons charges, after disabling Venezuelan air defenses and cutting power to Caracas, in an operation that lasted half an hour with no American casualties.
He announced the entry of major U.S. oil companies to rehabilitate and operate Venezuela’s oil sector (the largest proven oil reserves in the world), increasing production and returning it to global markets under full American supervision.
He hinted that the United States will control the sale of the oil—who it is sold to, when, and at what price—meaning in practical terms that Venezuela is no longer a sovereign state, but rather an energy platform within the American supply system.
What happened represents a blatant dismantling of international law and the United Nations Charter, carried out through a unilateral decision without informing Congress, marking a clear return to the logic of empires and rule by a single decision-maker.
This is viewed as a first step in a broader trajectory, with a high likelihood of a near-term U.S. strike on Iran, amid reports of evacuating U.S. bases in the Middle East and securing Venezuelan oil as preparation for a phase of widespread regional instability.
