Satellite images captured by Planet Labs PBC cast light on the scale of destruction caused by Israel’s assault on the besieged enclave over the last two years.
In a statement on Monday, Gaza’s media office said that 90% of Gaza has been ‘totally’ destroyed. In addition to targeted strikes on places of worship, heritage sites, sporting facilities, schools, cemeteries and infrastructure, Israel has destroyed more than 94% of Gaza’s farmland.
According to the United Nations office of humanitarian affairs (Ocha), the UN Satellite Centre and the UNHCR’s Shelter Cluster, Israel has destroyed or damaged 92% of housing units within Gaza, 70% of all structures, and left 1.3 million of Gaza’s 2.2 million population in need of emergency shelter.
