GOP Senator Calls For Investigation Into $4.7 Trillion In 'Untraceable' Treasury Payments GOP Senator Calls For Investigation Into $4.7 Trillion In 'Untraceable' Treasury Payments In February, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered made by the US Treasury that are "almost impossible" to trace - as Treasury Account Symbol (TAS) identification codes were optional in the system. This left billions in payments blank and unable to be traced. image "Of the 1.5 billion payments that we send out every year, they are required to have a TAS, a Treasury Account Symbol. We discovered that more than one third of those payments did not have a TAS number," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services earlier this month. "In the Federal Government, the TAS field was optional for ~$4.7 Trillion in payments and was often left blank, making traceability almost impossible," DOGE announced via its . Thanks to DOGE, those "optional" days are over. “...this is now a required field, increasing insight into where money is actually going," DOGE added.  Major improvement in Treasury payment integrity going live! This was a combined effort of — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) So while the TAS field is , Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has called for an investigation into where the untraceable payments have been going. "There's so much waste. There's so much fraud, There's so much abuse in our government," Schmitt told . "I'm glad there was a laser-like focus on it. We ought to make many of those reforms permanent, but there probably ought to be some investigations here about where this money actually went. I mean this is taxpayer money. People work hard." In March. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) https://www.rickscott.senate.gov/services/files/86DB540C-CD52-4153-8815-3EF1F1A355AC a bill - the LEDGER Act - requiring the Treasury Department to track all payments. "When you hear about this story that they didn't know where the money was going, it makes you mad because this is somebody's money, this is taxpayers' money when we have almost $37 trillion in debt, so this makes no sense at all," said Scott. Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) noted that the United States "paid out more last year on our debt, $36 trillion in debt, with https://www.cbo.gov/publication/60665 going to bondholders all over the world, including in China. That $950 billion didn't go to build a bridge or an F-35. We paid more on the interest on debt than we did to fund our military." "That is an inflection point that when most countries hit, you look at history, that's when great powers start to decline. So we have to get those savings." Sun, 05/25/2025 - 14:35
"This Is War": Catherine Austin Fitts On Land Grabs, The Evils Of CBDC, And Fighting 'The Most Invasive Form Of Tyranny That's Ever Existed' "This Is War": Catherine Austin Fitts On Land Grabs, The Evils Of CBDC, And Fighting 'The Most Invasive Form Of Tyranny That's Ever Existed' Investment banker and former Bush administration official sat down for a wide-ranging interview, in which she warned about the future of food security, digital financial surveillance via Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), and fighting back against "the most invasive form of tyranny that's ever existed." image Sitting down with , Fitts paints a picture of modern society teetering between high-tech control and a rebirth of grounded living. For starters, people need to take control of what they put into their bodies... The Cost of Health in an Age of Wealth Fitts recounted what we all know; just because you're rich doesn't mean you have two brain cells to rub together - noting that when she was an investment advisor, clients with $10–15 million brokerage accounts claimed they "couldn't afford" biodynamic or organic food.  "I would just be shocked," Fitts recalled. "You're financing the national security state through your brokerage account… and meantime you're eating food as… one ally said to me recently, 'Have you priced the cost of cancer lately?'". In short, the wealthiest Americans often fail to connect financial decisions to physical well-being. "The health and wellbeing of my family is the basis of our family wealth," she said. Food, Not Gold, as the Ultimate Asset While gold has traditionally served as a hedge against financial instability, Fitts is now more bullish on beef. "You put gold in a vault, it doesn't grow. You put cows in a field… and they multiply," she told Sagdal. "They're the ultimate in increase." image This sentiment fits hand in glove with that of - the concept that investing in local, regenerative agriculture not only ensures food access, but represents a resilient form of wealth creation. In Fitts' opinion, families and communities should form long-term capital relationships with ranchers; a reversal of decades-long trends in corporate food centralization Fitts is urging private investors to begin financing and building relationships with their nearest farmers and ranchers in order to maintain health, and mental clarity during the ongoing "war" on freedom.  "It's not just 'purchase and finance the capacity you need. It's more than that "" Fitts said. "You need be part of funding and organizing political efforts designed to protect your food supply. You need to do all these things, because this is war, and if you want to win you need to be healthy." The war that Fitts refers to is neither kinetic, nor overtly seen. Rather, the effects of this silent war are felt and experienced through increased surveillance and a general sense that things are not okay—especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. And while the pandemic may have exposed the fragility of America's supply chains, Sagdal and Fitts address the origins of this fragility. "How have we arrived in our current predicament, where our cattle volumes are at a Fitts gave to Tucker Carlson. Fitts responds by sharing that people within central banking have used new technologies to centralize control.   "This is what was talking about, the global centralization of economic and political control," Fitts said, referring to a 1994 interview with Charlie Rose." It's continued for my whole lifetime. And, as we see this centralization of control, we witness the deterioration of the quality of life." "[Globalization] uprooted the countryside, bloated the towns, destabilized the towns, and created terrible chaos," said Goldsmith, referring to the The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. "Under global trade agreements like GATT, millions of small farmers were displaced in favor of "efficient" industrial agriculture, "to satisfy an economic doctrine… We are worshiping the wrong god: economic index," Goldsmith continued. CBDCs and the Coming Age of Programmable Money The conversation delved into an interesting intersection; monetary policy and surveillance. According to Fitts, the push toward Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) represents not financial inclusion, but financial control. Referencing public comments by BIS general manager Agustín Carstens, Fitts warned that CBDCs could give governments the power to dictate not just how money is spent - but if it can be spent at all. "If you're locked down and can't leave your house, your money won't work outside your house, "she said. "If they don't want you eating pizza, you can't eat pizza." Carstens, in a widely viewed IMF panel, : "Central banks will have absolute control on the rules and regulations that will determine the use of [CBDCs]… and the technology to enforce that." According to Fitts, this is essentially akin to the Chinese Communist Party's social credit score - a goal plainly stated by Bo Li, the Deputy Director of the IMF and former Assistant Director of the People's Bank of China. In short... CBDC is social credit on steroids.  "By programming CBDC [Central Bank Digital Currency], those money can be precisely targeted for what kind of people can own, and what kind of use this money can be utilized," Li calmly outlines. "For example, for food." Fitts explains that all money and monetary policy will be an expression of a Central Bank liability…with the technology to enforce it. "In other words, it's not your money, it's our money.  So, we can set the rules around how you use our money,  and we can enforce it centrally. And what he was referring to was A.I. and software."  "We're talking about the most invasive form of tyranny that's ever existed on this planet," Fitts warns." What has been happening, you know, is this system has been slowly tightening around each of us. It's now coming to the point where it's more visible. "Now we're talking about getting into something that's complete control, and of course you can't control the money in this way unless you can control the food supply," she continued, suggesting that this level of government control isn't possible unless they can control the food supply and the amount of land available for private use. Land Grabs in the Wake of Disaster Fitts alleges that recent crises - from the pandemic to natural disasters - have provided cover for rapid land centralization. "During stagflation… that's the perfect opportunity where the people who can print money can finance themselves grabbing a lot of land," she said. Sagdal added that programs administered through HUD and tied to "resilient city" planning often mask community displacements under euphemisms like "strategic buyouts" or "community-driven relocation." Watch the rest of the interview below, where Fitts and Sagdal discuss; The Invisible Cattle Problem Fraud, Entrainment, and Psychological Manipulation A Battle Over the Brain — and the Plate What to do? Christian Rally In Seattle Park Attacked By Violent Woke Mob Christian Rally In Seattle Park Attacked By Violent Woke Mob The year of 2020 was an unmitigated disaster for the US for numerous reasons.  With so many chaotic events happening simultaneously, one can be forgiven if they have completely forgotten about the bizarre CHAZ/CHOP takeover of a section of Seattle by woke activists for around a month.  The protest led to extensive violence and some deaths, but was widely supported by city officials.  It was also a wellspring of hilarious memes as ignorant protesters tried in vain to establish a self sustaining progressive community complete with socialist garden spaces. Seattle is one of the few leftist enclaves in the US still clinging to the old days of BLM and covid mandates, and they are back in the news again.  This time because of an organized and violent mob attack on a peaceful Christian rally this week at Cal Anderson Park.  The rally, held by a group called Mayday USA, spoke on pro-life issues and against transgender hormones and surgeries for children.  A group called "Radical Women Seattle" stated their protest of the event: "Aimed to counter the well-funded anti-trans, anti-queer event that is led by far-right Christian activists. The Mayday USA rally in Seattle is provocatively being held in the heart of the Queer community. It is part of a 5-city national tour. Reactionary preacher and former Spokane Valley state representative Matt Shea, of the “On Fire Ministries,” is one of the prominent supporters..." Freedom Socialist Party leader Doreen McGrath stated: "We are encouraging everyone to come out and show their solidarity...Attacks of this kind need to be met with protest every time...” In other words, a Christian group meeting in a public park is considered an "attack". By mid-day the mob engaged in a series of violent attacks on the Christian rally, forcing police to intervene.  At least 23 activists were arrested on charges of assault and obstruction.  Seattle — Antifa and Trantifa gathered to riot again at the site of the former CHAZ occupation, which led to people being killed in 2020. The May 24 riot was organized to violently shut down a Christian worship event. — Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) After a decade of unhinged woke activism in the US most people are now well aware that the political left's idea of "free speech" is highly one-sided.  They believe that free speech laws give them the right to disrupt and even violently shut down other people's free speech.  In other words, they think that the 1st Amendment gives them the right to do whatever they want whenever they want.  This is simply not reality. Furthermore, the political left argues that the right to disrupt is supported by the content of their opponent's speech.  Meaning, if a person or group is presenting conservative or populist views (what they call "hate speech"), this justifies violence as a tool to shut that speech down.  This is a very convenient mindset because it allows them to rationalize any malicious action.  All they have to do is label their enemies "fascists" and the rules of civil order go out the window.  This is why leftists are unlikely to win a majority of elections at any point in the near future and it's also why the American public is increasingly tempted to return the favor and visit violence on woke activists. image Far left Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell warned against violence but .  He called for an investigation into the permit process that allowed the Christian group to meet at Cal Anderson Park, as if Mayday USA was to blame, and suggested that the attacks were caused by "anarchists infiltrating the protest". “Seattle is proud of our reputation as a welcoming, inclusive city for LGBTQ+ communities, and we stand with our trans neighbors when they face bigotry and injustice. Today’s far-right rally was held here for this very reason – to provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values, in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood..."     “Anarchists infiltrated the counter-protestors group and inspired violence, prompting SPD to make arrests and ask organizers to shut down the event early, which they did..."      “While there are broad First Amendment requirements around permitting events under free speech protections, I am directing the Parks Department to review all of the circumstances of this application to understand whether there were legal location alternatives or other adjustments that could have been pursued. The Police Department will complete an after-action report of this event, including understanding preparation, crowd management tactics, and review of arrests and citations..."     This kind of progressive political bias might have been in vogue in 2020, but that was five years ago.  Harrell should consider his positions carefully; a lot has changed and the notion that only certain activist groups have rights to public spaces is no longer being tolerated. The era of BLM and Antifa is over and even Seattle is going to have to catch up with the times. Sun, 05/25/2025 - 07:35
Sweden Democrats To Campaign On Complete Migration Stop In 2026 Election Sweden Democrats To Campaign On Complete Migration Stop In 2026 Election The Sweden Democrats have announced they will campaign in the 2026 general election on a pledge to stop migration to the country. image In an op-ed for   published on Wednesday, party leader Jimmie Åkesson and migration policy spokesperson Ludvig Aspling said Sweden’s national security must take precedence over the right to asylum, marking a hardening of the party’s already tough stance on immigration. “Sweden’s safety must come first — even when it conflicts with the right of asylum,” Åkesson wrote in a Facebook post linking to the article. “Before the 2026 election, we will therefore demand that Sweden be given the opportunity to completely stop migration.” The article itself proceeds to criticize the foundation of the European Union’s asylum system, calling it flawed because it deprives individual member states of the right to determine how many asylum seekers they admit. The nationalist duo suggests that the current rights-based asylum regime, which sets no theoretical upper limit on the number of people who can be granted protection so long as they meet the legal criteria, is not fit for purpose. According to the party, this legal framework has created a “strange situation,” where countries like Greece, Poland, and Finland have effectively sealed their borders to asylum seekers, yet received approval from Brussels. Åkesson noted that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen even praised Greece for previously closing its border with Turkey, calling it “Europe’s shield.” “We see it as completely obvious that migration from certain countries is a direct threat to national security here in our country as well,” Åkesson and Aspling stated. “It is time for Sweden to start adapting its actions to reality and stop treating EU rules as if they were Swedish law.” While Åkesson initially vowed to give Swedish voters the chance to “completely stop migration,” the article suggests a Sweden Democrats administration would initially clamp down on asylum policy and pause migration from specific regions, reserving the right to halt migration in its entirety should the deteriorating security situation in Sweden not improve. The duo cited an increase in bombings, shootings, religious extremism, and criminal networks as justification for exceptional measures, arguing that these conditions meet the threshold of an extraordinary situation, comparable to those that once allowed the Swedish government to temporarily override ordinary immigration laws. That provision was abolished in 1976, but the Sweden Democrats now want it reinstated. “If public security does not improve significantly before [the election], we will then demand that the ordinary immigration law be put out of play during the term of office,” the party stated.  This would involve pausing migration from Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, with limited exceptions, and expelling the roughly 6,000 foreign nationals identified by Swedish police as having links to gang crime. The party also hinted that “other unconventional measures may also be relevant” depending on the security situation. The Sweden Democrats have helped to prop up the current center-right administration in the country, lending it the votes it needs to govern effectively in exchange for pledges to tighten asylum and immigration rules and bolster law and order. But, according to Åkesson and Aspling, steering immigration policy toward the EU’s minimum legal standards is no longer sufficient, and Stockholm must go further to preserve the Swedish way of life. “It is time for Sweden to also become part of Europe’s shield,” they concluded. Åkesson has previously called for a ban on new citizenship applications into Sweden under the current government, criticizing what he claims is the “completely crazy policy” of allowing applications by “individuals from deeply dysfunctional countries where there are often completely different values than those that characterize our Swedish culture.” At his party’s annual conference in November 2023, the Swedish nationalist made headlines after he   that are proven to be used to promote messages incompatible with Western values. “It is not a right to come to our country and build monuments to a foreign and imperialist ideology,” Åkesson told his party’s faithful, also demanding a ban on the construction of new mosques. Cuba Now A Strategic Battleground For China Against The US Cuba Now A Strategic Battleground For China Against The US Cuba has been impoverished by years of communist control, but it possesses a strategic vantage point that China prizes. image Ryan Berg, director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said in his congressional testimony on May 6 that Cuba is a “strategic battleground” with China. Twenty sensitive U.S. government facilities in Florida are in range of the expanding Chinese Cyber and Signals Intelligence Collection network in Cuba. Even before the Russians minimized their presence in Cuba in 2002, the Chinese were eyeing the Caribbean country. https://www.csis.org/analysis/beijings-air-space-and-maritime-surveillance-cuba-growing-threat-homeland that in February 1999, then-Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Chi Haotian visited Cuba and met with his counterpart, then-Defense Minister Raúl Castro. “According to an article in El Nuevo Herald, the two reportedly signed an agreement granting China access to a number of former Soviet listening stations across the island, including the Bejucal base less than 10 miles from the old Lourdes station,” he noted. As part of the path toward resolving the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John F. Kennedy pledged publiclyhttps://2001-2009.state.gov/r/pa/ho/time/ea/17739.htm . The Soviets pledged to remove nuclear and “offensive” weapons from Cuba. The Soviets maintained a reduced presence in Cuba for the rest of the Cold War, including an intelligence collection station at Lourdes, outside of Havana, and occasional naval and air visits, while the United States maintained a robust overwatch of Cuba from bases in southern Florida. Chinese Military and Intelligence Network Grows in Cuba In the summer of 2023, Cuba leapt onto the front pages with the sudden, https://www.wsj.com/articles/cuba-to-host-secret-chinese-spy-base-focusing-on-u-s-b2fed0e0 .  Then, The Associated Press reported there was an anonymous Biden administration official who confirmed that this started in 2019, which was a clever way of deflecting responsibility toward President Donald Trump.  Berg pointed out that then-National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby “reversed course and admitted to China’s spy bases in Cuba, but insisted that its presence had existed since 2019 under the first Trump administration, implying the Biden administration had ‘inherited’ the challenge.” “Around the same time, reports surfaced that China was pursuing the construction of a military training base in Cuba,” he added.  Kirby had apparently missed the 1999 visit by Gen. Chi Haotian. In July 2024, https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/china-cuba-suspected-spy-bases-da1d6ec9 additional imagery and reported that the Chinese military and intelligence footprint grew even larger than first reported. The Chinese regime’s presence in Cuba is just one element of Chinese surveillance surrounding Florida. China has been that may have intelligence collection capabilities in the Gulf of America (previously known as the Gulf of Mexico) on the western side of Florida. Gen. Glen VanHerck, former commander of U.S. Northern Command, pointed out, before the Chinese spy balloon episode, https://www.northcom.mil/Newsroom/Transcripts/Transcript/Article/2573523/norad-usnorthcom-commanders-house-armed-services-committee-statement/ of the Chinese infrastructure presence in the Bahamas, only 50 miles to the right of Florida. Cuba Receives Promises of Chinese Support Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in Moscow on May 9 during the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.  The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said about the meeting, “China is ready to work with Cuba to further strengthen their ironclad friendship, build a closer China–Cuba community with a shared future, and set an example of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries and sincere interaction between developing countries.”    In addition, the BRICS alliance—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—welcomed Cuba into the organization on Jan. 1, 2025, that the Caribbean country’s membership would allow it to become “a relevant player on the international stage.” Beijing dominates policy and plans for BRICS. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has developed an alliance with Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and South Africa in its “no limits” strategy to take on the United States, and it appears Cuba is entering this grouping of communist and totalitarian countries. CCP Lures Latin American Countries With Financial Offer Following the U.S.–China tariff truce, China hosted a forum with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Beijing on May 13. Left-leaning leaders in Latin America, such as Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, and Colombian President Gustavo Petro, were in attendance.   The CCP used a Belt and Road Initiative power play and extended a credit line of $9.2 billion to the Latin American countries in attendance, with a very important caveat: The currency used in the line of credit would be the Chinese yuan. The move, which excluded the global reserve currencies like the U.S. dollar, aimed to promote the yuan while China deepens its ties in the Americas. Of all the opportunities in the Americas, Cuba offers China the greatest return on investment. The short distance to the United States from Cuba allows the CCP a key intelligence observation point and a way to create a counterbalance of world support for Taiwan.  There may not yet be missiles in Cuba, or at least they haven’t been identified, but another Cuban crisis is developing. As a article said, “Trump Will Disrupt Three Decades of ‘Benign Neglect’ of American focus on the Americas, with Cuba likely being one of the starting points. *  *  * Views expressed in this article are opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times or ZeroHedge. Kremlin Says Vatican Is Not A 'Neutral' Place For Peace Talks Kremlin Says Vatican Is Not A 'Neutral' Place For Peace Talks After last week's Istanbul talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, which was a first since early 2022, Western leaders have been floating the Vatican as a likely venue for future rounds of peace talks. This is after Pope Leo, the first American-born pontiff, offered for talks to be hosted at the Vatican, which could act as a mediator. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said days ago that Pope Leo XIV expressed his willingness to host the next round of talks. The Vatican is being presented as a neutral place, after as we've highlighted before the new Pontiff is attempting to initiate a regarding global hotspots, from Gaza to Ukraine. image "Finding in the Holy Father confirmation of the readiness to host the next talks between the parties in the Vatican, the prime minister expressed deep gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for his unceasing commitment to peace," an Italian government's   reads. But the Kremlin objects to the assumption that the Vatican is some kind of purely neutral place, ready to respect both warring sides' interests. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at the Diplomatic Academy in Moscow on Friday, poured cold water on hopes of Vatican-hosted talks. "Many people are fantasizing about when and where [the meeting] will take place. We don't have any ideas right now," the foreign minister . "But imagine the Vatican as a venue for negotiations. It would be a bit inelegant for Orthodox countries to use a Catholic platform to discuss issues on how to remove the root causes [of the war in Ukraine]," Lavrov added. "I do not think it would suit the Vatican itself to host delegations from two Orthodox countries in these circumstances," he said.  It could be that Moscow has carefully looked at what Leo said while he was : After being elected, Pope Leo XIV, the first American to lead the Catholic Church, has pledged to personally "make every effort so that this peace may prevail." In his first Sunday address on May 11, the pope called for an "authentic and lasting peace" in Ukraine, adding that he carries in his heart the "suffering of the beloved people of Ukraine." Previously, while serving as the bishop of Chiclayo in Peru, Leo XIV spoke out against Russia's continued war against Ukraine. While politics including the historic trend of NATO expansion are driving the war, it has bled over into church affairs. Russia is outraged over the Zelensky government persecuting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for maintaining spiritual communion with the Russian Orthodox Church. image There have been repeat instances of government authorities seizing Ukrainian Orthodox churches and monasteries, and local Catholic clergy have not objected to this alarming trend. The Vatican also has an interest in protecting its minority Ukrainian 'Greek-Catholic' Church, which is concentrated in Western Ukraine, especially in and near Lviv. Sat, 05/24/2025 - 13:25
1 In 4 People In Germany Now Has Migrant Background, Data Shows 1 In 4 People In Germany Now Has Migrant Background, Data Shows Germany’s migrant population is surging, with new data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) revealing that more than one in four people now living in the country has a migration background. image In 2024, the number of residents with an immigration background rose by 4 percent, or 873,000 people, compared to the previous year, reaching a record 21.2 million. This represents 25.6 percent of the total population, up from 24.7 percent in 2023. The term “migration background” includes both those who have immigrated themselves (first-generation migrants) and those born in Germany to two immigrant parents (second-generation). Nearly 16.1 million people — 19.4 percent of the population — were immigrants themselves, while an additional 5.2 million, or 6.3 percent, were born in Germany to two foreign-born parents. In contrast, the native-born population without any migration history fell by 1 percent (734,000 people) to 57.4 million, now comprising 69.3 percent of the country. The youth of Germany’s migrant population stands out. Among people aged 20 to 39, more than one in three (34 percent) had a migration background in 2024. Among those over 65, that figure drops to 14 percent. The average age of someone with a migration background is 38.2 years, nearly a decade younger than those without one, who average 47.4 years. Those with only one immigrant parent had the youngest average age of all groups at 25.1. Migration since 2015 has played a major role in these shifts, with nearly 6.5 million people living in Germany in 2024 immigrating after 2015. Between 2015 and 2021, the largest groups came from Syria (716,000), Romania (300,000), and Poland (230,000). From 2022 to 2024, Ukraine dominated the figures, with 843,000 arrivals, followed by Syria (124,000) and Turkey (112,000). The main reasons cited for migrating to Germany since 2015 were to seek asylum (31 percent), employment (23 percent), and family reunification (21 percent). Among women, family reunification was especially significant, cited by 26 percent alongside 30 percent who cited flight. Among men, 32 percent cited flight and 28 percent employment. The new figures confirm that Germany’s migrant population is growing rapidly, leading to demographic pressures and concerns over integration. Furthermore, the common claim among left-wing politicians that migration is fuelling Germany’s workforce does not stand up to scrutiny, with fewer than a quarter of newcomers citing employment as their reason for the move. Judge Grants Harvard Temporary Relief On Foreign Student Ban Judge Grants Harvard Temporary Relief On Foreign Student Ban Update (1200ET): Hours later, a judge has granted Harvard's request for a temporary restraining order on the Trump administration's foreign student ban.  US District Judge Allison Burroughs, an Obama appointee, issued the temporary restraining order freezing the policy. image *  *  * Update (1919ET): To the surprise of no one, Harvard University sued the Trump administration on Friday, less than 24 hours after the Department of Homeland Security gave the university 72 hours to hand over information on foreign students or they would block international students from attending the nation's oldest university. image In a Friday morning letter to the Harvard community, president Alan Garber wrote: "We condemn this unlawful and unwarranted action," adding that it "imperils the futures of thousands of students and scholars across Harvard and serves as a warning to countless others at colleges and universities throughout the country who have come to America to pursue their education and fulfill their dreams." The lawsuit, which claims that the move violates its First Amendment and due process rights, accuses the Trump administration of a "campaign of retribution" against the university, which indicated that it would also be filing a temporary restraining order (TRO) asking a judge to immediately block the administration's action. The suit claims that the Trump administration is exerting "clear retaliation for Harvard exercising its First Amendment rights to control Harvard’s governance, curriculum and the ‘ideology’ of its faculty and students." "With the stroke of a pen, the government has sought to erase a quarter of Harvard’s student body, international students who contribute significantly to the university and its mission," reads the lawsuit. It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments… — Secretary Kristi Noem (@Sec_Noem) In April DHS threatened to block Harvard from enrolling international students if the university refused to hand over detailed records about the student body containing "relevant information" on student visa holders who have been involved in "known illegal" or "dangerous" activity. "It is a privilege to have foreign students attend Harvard University, not a guarantee," Noem wrote in an April . "The United States government understands that Harvard University relies heavily on foreign student funding from over 10,000 foreign students to build and maintain their substantial endowment." Harvard dug in last month following the Trump admin's demands - with president Alan Garber saying in a statement "No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue." Not So Fast? Concurrently, a federal judge in California has blocked the Trump administration from terminating the legal status of international students nationwide while a court case challenging previous terminations is pending. The order by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White in Oakland bars the government from arresting or incarcerating the plaintiffs and similarly situated students; from transferring any of them outside the jurisdiction of their residence; from imposing any adverse legal effect on students and from reversing the reinstatement of the legal status until the case is resolved. Students can still be arrested for violent crimes. - According to White, the government's actions "wreaked havoc not only on the lives of Plaintiffs here but on similarly situated F-1 nonimmigrants across the United States and continues do so." Read Noem's letter below (emphasis ours): Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program Decertification I am writing to inform you that effective immediately, Harvard University's Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification is revoked. As I explained to you in my April letter, it is a privilege to enroll foreign students, and it is also a privilege to employ aliens on campus. All universities must comply with Department of Homeland Security requirements, including reporting requirements under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program regulations, to maintain this privilege. As a result of your refusal to comply with multiple requests to provide the Department of Homeland Security pertinent information while perpetuating an unsafe campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-llamas sympathies, and employs racist "diversity, equity, and inclusion" policies, you have lost this privilege. The revocation of your Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification means that Harvard is prohibited from having any aliens on F- or J- nonimmigrant status for the 2025-2026 academic school year. This decertification also means that existing aliens on F- or J- nonimmigrant status must transfer to another university in order to maintain their nonimmigrant status. This action should not surprise you and is the unfortunate result of Harvard's failure to comply with simple reporting requirements. On April 16, 2025, I requested records pertaining to nonimmigrant students enrolled at Harvard University, including information regarding misconduct and other offenses that would render foreign students inadmissible or removable. On April 30, 2025, Harvard's counsel provided information that he represented as responsive to my request. It was not. As a courtesy that Harvard was not legally entitled to, the Acting DHS General Counsel responded on my behalf and afforded Harvard another opportunity to comply. Harvard again provided an insufficient response. Consequences must follow to send a clear signal to Harvard and all universities that want to enjoy the privilege of enrolling foreign students, that the Trump Administration will enforce the law and root out the evils of anti-Americanism and antisemitism in society and campuses. If Harvard would like the opportunity of regaining Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification before the upcoming academic school year, you must provide all of the information requested below within 72 hours. Please be advised that providing materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent information may subject you to criminal prosecution under 18 U.S.C. § 1001. Other criminal and civil sanctions may also apply. I expect full and complete responses to the following requests: Any and all records, whether official or informal, in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding illegal activity whether on or off campus, by a nonimmigrant student enrolled in Harvard University in the last five years. Any and all records, whether official or informal, in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding dangerous or violent activity whether on or off campus, by a nonimmigrant student enrolled in Harvard University in the last five years. Any and all records, whether official or informal, in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding threats to other students or university personnel whether on or off campus, by a nonimmigrant student enrolled in Harvard University in the last five years. Any and all records, whether official or informal, in the possession of Harvard University, including electronic records and audio or video footage, regarding deprivation of rights of other classmates or university personnel whether on or off campus, by a nonimmigrant student enrolled in Harvard University in the last five years. Any and all disciplinary records of all nonimmigrant students enrolled in Harvard University in the last five years. Any and all audio or video footage, in the possession of Harvard University, of any protest activity involving a nonimmigrant student on a Harvard University campus in the last five years. The Latest Hungarian-Ukrainian Tensions Are Troubling The Latest Hungarian-Ukrainian Tensions Are Troubling Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban   over whether to support Ukraine’s EU membership plans.  He also accused the opposition of unprecedentedly colluding with them.  This coincided with Hungary   after Ukraine accused Hungary of spying on it and Hungary accused Ukraine of pushing hostile propaganda. image The larger context concerns Hungary’s principled refusal to send arms to Ukraine or allow its territory to be used by others to that end due to its pro-peace policy. As can be evinced above, it’s also against Ukraine joining the EU, the reason being that Ukraine   how the aforesaid policies align with Hungarian national interests, Zelensky and many in the West accuse him of being Putin’s puppet. This was the tacit pretext upon which Ukraine let a gas deal with Russia lapse at the start of the year   after Prime Minister Roberto Fico’s return to power in late 2023. Ukraine’s move was therefore clearly meant to punish them for their pro-peace policies, which Ukraine believes undermine European unity towards the conflict and could one day obstruct EU financial aid. The latest tensions are more troubling than any of the aforesaid since they concern security issues. Mutual mistrust was boiling for a while as detailed above but it’s now taking on a new dimension. Given their deteriorating ties since 2022, it was to be expected that they’d spy on each other, but few could have expected Ukraine’s innuendo that Hungary might be preparing an invasion and Hungary’s innuendo that Ukraine might try to orchestrate a  . These claims deserve to be scrutinized. Ukraine’s build upon smears that Hungary is a Russian proxy and might therefore be ordered to open a “second front” sometime in the future on the pretext of protecting its co-ethnics. While they’re indeed being discriminated against, the costs of a Hungarian military intervention in their support far outweigh the benefits. Hungary would ostracize itself from the West, open itself up to crippling sanctions and possibly even allied attack, and have to incorporate or forcibly expel Zakarpattia’s Ukrainian population. Hungary’s claims are more believable since Ukraine already behaves as a Western proxy. Former Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov   on Wagner in Mali. It thus wouldn’t be surprising if Ukraine is helping the West undermine Russian-friendly Orban. With this insight in mind, Ukraine is much more of a credible threat to Hungary than the inverse. In fact, Ukraine might exploit the latest tensions as the pretext for ramping up pressure on Hungary, which could in turn prompt more European countries to do the same.  Any legal action against the Hungarian opposition for their collusion with the Ukrainian special services might also lead to serious EU sanctions. Hungary must therefore brace itself for major meddling ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections. Sun, 05/18/2025 - 07:00
"We Study Fascism...We're Leaving The US": NYTimes Runs Video Of Yale Profs Fleeing To Canada "We Study Fascism...We're Leaving The US": NYTimes Runs Video Of Yale Profs Fleeing To Canada The New York Times continues to work tirelessly to maintain the narrative that the United States is now a fascist regime. Earlier, the Times demonstrated its view of balanced analysis by running a collection of legal opinions titled “image All three professors are going permanently to Canada to teach at the University of Toronto. It appears that the   for conservatives in Canada is not a deterrent for Yale professors longing to be free. The seven-minute   features the three scholars:  Yale philosophy Professor Jason Stanley and history professors Marci Shore and Timothy Snyder (who are married). Shore insisted that the United States is now a fascist country replicating the Nazi takeover. Indeed, she mocks those of us who believe that our constitutional system has proven itself for centuries as a guarantor of civil liberties, including our system of checks and balances. Shore dismisses such assurances while suggesting that the American people are a virtual ship of fools in not recognizing the fascists all around them: “The lesson of 1933 is that you get out sooner rather than later.” She added that Americans are “like people on the Titanic saying, ‘Our ship can’t sink.’ We’ve got the best ship. We’ve got the strongest ship. We’ve got the biggest ship. Our ship can’t sink,” she said. “And what you know as a historian is that there is no such thing as a ship that can’t sink.” Professor Snyder declared that Americans are deluding themselves: “If you think there is this thing out there called ‘America,’ and it’s exceptional, that means that you don’t have to do anything. Whatever is happening, it must be freedom. Soon, you are using the word freedom, what you are talking about is authoritarianism.” The New York Times splices in ominous images of migrants being detained, children crying, and anti-Israel protesters being arrested. It also shows the image of Elon Musk’s alleged Nazi salute,   fostered by the media. Previously, Snyder did   claiming an oligarchic conspiracy led by Musk: “we’re shifting from a democracy, which had some pretty heavy oligarchical streaks running through it, toward something like an oligarchy, in which I think it’s fair to say that it’s not Trump who’s the most important person. It’s Musk. Trump has debts. Musk has money. Trump has debts specifically to Musk for getting him elected. And I think the burden of proof is actually on Trump to show that he has any room for maneuver in this system. And it’s going to be interesting to see how congressional Republicans react, because what this particular oligarch wants is to break the federal government. And whatever their views might be, not — many of them don’t actually want the United States of America to cease to exist so that oligarchs can pick up the pieces.” That is who the New York Times featured in its latest apocalyptic diatribe. What is interesting about one   is how Snyder predicts Trump will engage in censorship through litigation, noting that it will not involve direct censorship barred by the First Amendment. He entirely ignores the massive censorship system of conservatives fostered by the Biden Administration on social media. That was apparently not something that you would speak out against, let alone leave the country over. Professor Stanley’s   to the political debate include his condemnation of “the right-wing hateosphere” in a diatribe that he later reaffirmed: I am really, truly, embarrassed by the fact that my mild comment ‘F[**]k those assholes’ is being spread. This wildly understates my actual sentiments towards homophobic religious proponents of evil like Richard Swinburne, who use their status as professional philosophers to oppress others with less power. I am SO SORRY for using such mild language. In the New York Times video, Stanley clinically explains that “you know you’re living in a fascist society when you’re constantly going over in your head the reasons why you’re safe. What we want is a country where none of us have to feel that way.” It is a curious statement. Most of us fight to preserve our civil liberties to maintain a country that remains the longest, most stable, and most successful constitutional system in history. We do not dramatically pick up our things and stomp out of the country in a self-aggrandizing huff. Losing elections can certainly make some “feel that way,” but for the rest of the country, it seemed like democracy at work. In the meantime, our courts are sorting out challenges to Trump executive orders, with many judges, including Trump appointees, ruling against the Administration. Those are the pesky “checks and balances” that Professor Shore blissfully dismissed in the New York Times video. What is truly striking is that even Yale (which has purged virtually all conservatives from its faculty ranks) is not sufficiently “safe” for these three academic émigrés. They are going to the University of Toronto and Ontario to feel truly safe. Of course, Ontario is not viewed as a safe space for many conservatives or contrarians. It proved hardly protective for University of Toronto professor emeritus Jordon Peterson when he was https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/jordan-peterson-court-case-decision-1.6943845  to curb his controversial writings. That order was upheld by successive Canadian courts. So now these three academics will relocate to Toronto to teach Canadian students about fascism. They may, however, want to tread lightly on the subject of free speech. Sat, 05/17/2025 - 08:10
