We are a small NYC-based women’s group who wants to host public lesbian-only events. We can’t. After New York’s Prop 1 passed last year, putting “gender identity” in our state constitution, it now counts as discrimination if we turn away straight men who say the magic words, “I am a lesbian.” It should be obvious where the hate is coming from. Despite the corporate-funded party for straight people, it is now illegal in NY state for gays and lesbians to have their own spaces. Does Mayor Adams support this blatant homophobia? Or does he think the “hate” comes from the actual LGB calling out the obvious homophobia of letting self-declared “gender identity” subsume sex?
