The Southern Patagonia Ice Field is the largest expanse of ice outside the polar regions. It extends southwards for approximately 350 kilometres (220 miles). In places it is up to 80km (50 miles) wide. This ice mass feeds dozens of glaciers feeding into both Chile and Argentina.
This image was taken on a grey cloudy day where we could hardly tell the difference between land and sky. Suddenly the mists lifted and out of the gloom a horizontal window appeared revealing the magnificent peaks at the head of the Videma glacier
