there's a lot of liberal discourse right now about the assassination playing into the hands of the fascists as a pretext, and a worryingly large amount of conspiracy theories about false flags etc. this complete lack of confidence that our side is able to take any action at all, that we're defined as powerless and perpetual victims.
I wonder when the liberals are going to understand that the fascists are already in power and are going to escalate the oppression just the same whether you roll over or not. I wonder when it's going to register that they've already been months sending masses of people to concentration camps to work as slaves until death, and just because it's people who speak Spanish doesn't mean you're not next.
I would posit this question to liberals—imagine that your friend had the chance to shoot Hitler during a speech in 1935. would you tell your friend that he should not resort to political violence because something democracy due process guns bad? if you believe Trump is a modern day Hitler, and you should really examine your thoughts about that, then what would be the response to Trumpist leaders other than shooting them in the face?
every micro celebrity agitating for white supremacy should live in terror of being doxed, public assassinations of nazis during speeches should be more common than school shootings. nothing else is going to stop fascism. protests are not going to stop fascism, radical empathy isn't going to stop fascism, the police-carceral system isn't going to stop fascism, and voting in the next election (assuming you have one) is most definitely not going to stop fascism. all of that was done in the 20th century and failed to stop them, and failed so far in this century too, and is going to keep failing.
I *hope* the assassin is leftist, transgender, immigrant etc. yes they're going to use whatever to take away guns and whatnot, so what. they always were going to. but having people on our side take action, this can remind people that there is something we can do about it. we always knew there was, but it's hard to deny it when it's *demonstrated*.
