Today in class, I taught my students about decentralized networks, I told them about the XMPP/Google story (see link) and ended with a demonstration of the #fediverse with Mastodon and Peertube. They are Computer Grad students. They never heard about Mastodon. I hope some of them will be curious enough to join and that you will warmly welcome them!

The best way to help those who are or will be under a dangerous political regime is to normalize the tools that protect them. If you use Whatsapp, try to replace as many conversations as you can with Signal. If you use Gmail or Outlook, switch to an independent privacy preserving provider, at least for your personal emails. If you use Chrome, switch to Firefox. By making those tools "normal", you are making them look less suspicious. If you don’t do it for yourself, do it for others.

I’m really happy that @Cory Doctorow is talking about RSS. We need more RSS. In my own case, I just like to say that I don’t even try to read the main page of blogs and news websites. I simply open the RSS feed with #offpunk to see the latest posts. For nerds like me, you RSS feed *is* the real homepage of your website.

Stop putting QR code on your posters in the city. I don’t have my phone with me. When I have it, I don’t want to open it. When it is open, I don’t want to scan random stuff. Just put the information on the posters. The date, the place, the price. Write them ! Add an URL to your website. One I could memorize, note down or even recognize later. And no instagram/facebook. I want the information, not "follow". You are not cool, you are simply losing a huge part of your potential audience.
