My parents use #Quicksy and #Prav to communicate with me on #XMPP for around 3 years now. Think of how significant that has been in terms of privacy. Before @Pirate Praveen told me about Quicksy (and @The Prāv Cooperative was not a thing before 2022), I tried to onboard them to #Matrix and XMPP using Element and Conversations respectively. However, the on boarding was complicated for them (people are not used to remembering usernames and passwords anymore).

I am impressed by how lightweight #XMPP is. Most of time, I am not able to open even simple websites on my mobile data while in underground #Delhi metro, but XMPP messages go through immediately. On a related note, I remember having internet issues in my previous phone a couple of years ago after switching to Lineage OS. Matrix, websites etc. didn't use to work. But XMPP messages used to go through fine.

I presented #Prav today at #BiharFOSS. The interactive demo suggested by @npub1lfvj...30kl and @Hippo πŸ‰ was simple for newbies to understand and made the talk interactive. The idea was to get two volunteers from the audience, one having #WhatsApp and the other using #Telegram, followed by asking them to send a text from WhatsApp to Telegram. After this, get a volunteer with non-Airtel number to send an SMS to me (as I use Airtel), illustrating federation nicely. #XMPP #FreeSoftware #OpenSource
