Lifestyle Influencers constantly bombard my feed with new products, Dyson styling tools, brushes, etc!! But I REFUSE TO FALL FOR IT ANYMORE
I think my breaking point was a video tutorial for vintage hairstyles and the influencer recommended an expensive Dyson Hair Styler tool ($300!!!)
Imagine that, a comments section full of women fawning over this vintage beauty — who in reality, took a cost efficient but time intensive process to achieve her style.
My first step to distancing myself from the shopaholic algorithm was small. You don’t have to go cold turkey and start a homesteading lifestyle. I just bought secondhand heat styling tools from Goodwill. Not something I recommend doing with hair brushes, however heat styling tools (hair curlers, hair straighteners, hair dryers) can reach high temperatures and be sanitized at home. 2024 — 3 hair curling irons at various sizes for a total of $10.00 usd. Yes! It’s possible if you’re willing to step away from the crowd. Do I have the newest Dyson Hair Styling Tool lineup ? No, but quite frankly — I don’t even like to use heat on my hair often.
Another step. Women for most of history didn’t use heat styles as often as modern influencers want you to believe (exception being stage performers, of course) —— The average woman got by with hairspray, (tallow if we go further back in time), braiding, and heatless overnight curls.
What’s even cooler, you don’t even need tools, you just need patterns!! Which are completely FREE to search online

These exist for every vintage bombshell. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to do something that was FREE for every woman that existed before you.
I sit here typing with my hair in 5 different hair clips. De influence yourself, life is so much brighter when you’re looking through the lens of a human —— not an algorithm.
