Gaza today, and for now, disrupts and defies the global agenda of rendering entire populations disposable and rightless. This was achieved through the resilience of an entire population that has endured months of displacement, starvation, disease, and bombardment. Yet, they persevered, facing adversity with unwavering patience and resilience. Palestinians in Gaza send a powerful message to those championing anti-immigration policies around the world: no one wants to be a refugee in someone else's country, and no one wishes to be a burden—neither on the East nor the West, neither on friend nor foe. Palestinians in Gaza have paid the heaviest price simply to remain in their homes, or as close to home as possible. Today, Israel's schemes to expel and displace millions of Palestinians into the wilderness of Sinai have failed. Those plans have crumbled at the gates of Gaza. And at those gates, Palestinians offer history yet another epic chapter, one that will be remembered for generations and centuries to come. image
