NEW: Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) shared testimony from survivors of Israel’s attack on Palestinians near the Rafah Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distribution hub, where dozens were killed and hundreds injured. MSF teams joined the mass casualty response at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Patients told MSF they were shot from all sides — by drones, helicopters, naval boats, tanks, and Israeli soldiers on the ground. Many patients arrived with serious injuries, and those in critical condition are still undergoing surgery. With blood banks nearly empty, medical staff themselves have had to donate blood. “They looked shattered and distraught after trying to secure food for their children, returning instead injured and empty-handed,” said an MSF Emergency Coordinator. “Outside, there was shouting, sirens, and a constant rush of new arrivals to the emergency room. Amid the chaos, we received confirmation that a colleague’s brother had been killed while attempting to collect aid from the distribution center.” Mansour Sami Abdi, a father of four, described the chaos: “People fought over five pallets. They told us to take food — then they fired from every direction. I ran 200 meters before realizing I’d been shot. This isn’t aid. It’s a lie. Are we supposed to get food for our kids and die?” Mohammad Daghmeh, 24, a displaced person from Al-Qarara in Khan Younis, recalled: “I was shot at 3:10 a.m. As we were trapped, I bled constantly until 5:00 a.m. There were many other men with me. One tried to get me out — he was shot in the head and died on my chest. We had gone there for nothing but food — just to survive, like everyone else.”
Palestinian analyst Muhammad Shehada warns that Israel’s new aid distribution scheme is designed to trap and detain desperate Palestinians. To reach aid hubs, Palestinians must pass through Israeli checkpoints and biometric screenings — allowing Israeli forces to snatch not only people of interest, but also anyone remotely connected to them. Israel maintains extensive biometric and familial databases on nearly every Palestinian. Multiple such disappearances have already been reported among those trying to access aid. Shehada explains: “Well, to put it mildly — if you combine Mad Max, Fallout, Minority Report, and Black Mirror into one movie, you would get exactly what this scenario is.” @npub1ay54...6h3q | @Muhammad Shehada
NEW: Dr. @Feroze Sidhwa to the UN Security Council: “My patients were six-year-olds with shrapnel in their heart and bullets in their brains. And pregnant women whose pelvises had been obliterated and their fetuses cut in two while still in the womb.” The U.S. emergency physician, who spent five weeks recently volunteering at Gaza’s Nasser Hospital, told the Council that Israel is carrying out the deliberate destruction of the enclave’s healthcare system. “Mothers sheltering in the hospital cooked bread on hotplates in the emergency department during mass casualty events,” Sidhwa recalled, “as we dealt with the rain of fire and death falling around us everywhere.” “Participating in it or not, allowing it to happen is a choice,” he said. “This is a deliberate denial of conditions necessary for life: food, shelter, water, and medicine. Preventing genocide means refusing to normalize these atrocities.”
As you listen to these disturbing remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (currently wanted for war crimes) at the IHRA conference in Jerusalem today, note two things: ▪️ First, Netanyahu denies there is any hunger crisis in Gaza, claiming no Palestinians are starving. ▪️ Then, he boasts that Israel takes “thousands” of Palestinian prisoners and “sorts them out into civilians and combatants.” Very few of these civilians are released immediately. Many remain held without charge, effectively as hostages, in military detention camps where they endure systematic torture, abuse, and medical neglect—as documented in the Israeli NGO B’Tselem’s August 2024 report Welcome to Hell. WATCH: Gaza Aid Distribution Trap Used To Detain Several Palestinians by Israeli Forces A Gaza family says their relative was kidnapped by Israeli forces while trying to receive food aid at the US-Israeli site near the Morag Crossing. He has since gone missing. Gaza relief official Eyad Amawi describes the scene as a “ghetto”—with civilians walking over 15 km through detour routes to collect aid in a humiliating process overseen by Israeli military personnel and an American NGO. He told Drop Site’s Jeremy Scahill that this system is not reaching most people in need—and is being used to snatch Palestinians under the guise of humanitarianism. @jeremy scahill | @Ryan Grim | @Drop Site
25-year-old photojournalist from Gaza, Fatima Hassouna, was the subject of the documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk. Hassouna was killed in an Israeli airstrike on her home in Gaza City on April 16, 2025, just one day after learning of the film’s selection for Cannes. Watch this interview with the director of the film Sepideh Farsi, below.
