That code was passing around loosely-defined alists (key/value dictionaries); changed it to well-defined records:

I started by using wgrep to replace (assq-ref foo #:bar) by (foo-bar foo) but, believe it or not, it turned out to be trickier: in some cases it wasn’t quite clear what we were expecting. I shaved a yak and it took longer than expected.
