Trying out our beefiest dehydratior load yet... all trays populated with 5-7mm sort of thickness pear slices. I've soaked them in a citric acid solution. Didn't bother to peel, I like the peel.
I don't know how transferable/reusable it is but it worked for me and it is this: G6U1H4Z5
I've noticed they have a 20 year anniversary sale going on too.
They're based in Germany but thankfully they still ship to the UK.
My favourite jars are the 580ml and 850ml "inverted" style and the 1,050ml "tulip". Most of ours get filled with #allotment passata, but I also ferment in them, especially the tulip jars.
I decided to get some sauce bottles too, just going for a 250ml wide-neck "Vroni" for the sake of versatility. I also got some TO82 lids which I hope will fit existing jars I have where the lids are a bit too worn for re-use, but just in case I also grabbed a handful of matching 770ml hex jars. π
I'm getting over 50 different jars/etc with an excess of closures for under Β£100, inclusive of VAT and shipping.
Anyone here have experience storing things like pillows and doonas in these vacuum storage bags? Does it do them any harm if kept compressed for a long time?
Trying to think of better ways to store these bulky items.
I've never used these before.
New space. Henry for scale.
So part of the deal with the landlord for sorting the mowing/hedges/bins is we now have this "summer house" for our own use. It's basically just a panel shed with lots of glass. It does catch some nice end-of-day-sun though. We've moved a spare couch into it, mainly to get it out of the way mind. Not quite sure what we'll do with the space, definitely in part storage for some of the too-much-shit we own. But maybe I can make some more fun and casual use of it too. Might move the BBQ back there, though it is also convenient having the BBQ by the back door so not fully sure. Things to think about.
(Forgive the overgrown greenhouse, so much energy has gone into the new allotment plot work this year I've just not been able to make good use of it.)
I'm a couple of weeks behind on my daft old #allotment postcard waffle... caught up a week just now. Now seem to be missing footage for the next week. Hmmm... a blessing perhaps. That was all my lacto pickle gherkins footage from in the kitchen, was supposed to be something a bit different for a change lol. Hey ho! The gherkins are over now, so maybe next year.
Anyway, winding back to Sept 7th - this was a week/end of autumnal melancholy and not much was achieved really.
Anyone on #gardening Fedi have UK recommendations for some sort of not-too-big/expensive mulcher/shredder that is good for sticks and leaves kinda work, hedge-trimmer trimmings, etc... ideally to make this sort of material good for composting?
We have one of those [crusher-style](https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7501935?clickSR=slp:term:spear%20jackson%20mulcher:13:47:1 ) ones but it is only really good on sticks and small branches, it just chokes on leafy material.
I realise "use a lawnmower" may also be an option (I do not currently have a lawnmower.)

Well, my plans this evening didn't include being mildly rammed by a taxi on the Denton /M60 roundabout... but there you go. I am fine, V70 is mildly bruised. Taxi cunt swore at me about some incomprehensible bullshit and drove off. Witness stopped, backs my side of events (apparently has seen the same thing happen before), exchanged details. Sadly no dashcam footage. Reported to police and insurance. Car seems to be driving fine, just denting and paint damage to driver's side doors.
Meh.
So I'll be home after midnight. :(
Our biggest allotment melon. (Nothing obvious "for scale" really, it is a bit under 15cm across.)
Definitely not our best in terms of flavour, but not bad.
