Note to self: think about factoring slugs into design of the allotment automation setup πŸ˜‚ Edit: RE: previous boost: https://m.ai6yr.org/@headlines_bot/115168774368240456
An #AskFedi: home #projector recommendations? (Available in UK.) Budget circa Β£500 I guess, lower the better, it doesn't need to be particularly fancy or small β€” and 1080p is good enough for us. We swapped from LCD screens to projectors in 2019 and are on our second cheapo unit, both were of YABER brand off Amazon, the first one lasted 4 years, the current one is problematic already after just 2 years. They both had this thing where an area of screen "burns out", generally worse in hot weather, and can be reversed with ice packs... until the day it cannot (which may be today). This projector "only" cost Β£220, but I'd hoped it'd last as long as the previous at least (which was Β£183.) image
Today's #allotment #HarvestPorn... It has been a very downtime weekend though, nothing really achieved... I think I have a case of the autumnal melancholies... need to snap out of that, but I say that knowing it isn't something I really have a great deal of control over. Was up too late last night, that certainly does not help and I should try harder to not do that. Anyway... another week ahead, will enter it with the intention of Doing Better. One can hope. But regardless of my own uselessness the allotment provides. I just have try try and be non-useless enough to put the bounty to good use. image
The "Jesper Makes" videos are a bit of fun, he has become pretty good with his scripting and video production.
Driving home today passed a guy who had driven his van (looked like an L2H2 size, i.e. pretty big) off the road and landed it squarely on its side in the roadside ditch. It was flat and level with the ground either side (yes, the ditches around here are that big.) Certainly did a double-take on approach as he was on the phone and standing on the van door. An odd scene. Slowed down and asked if everything was OK but he just waved me on, there wasn't anywhere to stop really and not like there was anything I could do about it. I guess he's had a shit day... but also very lucky. Fuck knows how he managed that, but vehicles in ditches are not an uncommon site here... they even have a special sign for it common in these parts. image
Got last week's #allotment postcard up: postcard #35 β€” gratuitous cat clips πŸˆβ€β¬› melon melon melon 🍈 jalapeΓ±os 🌢️ passata πŸ… chinook 🚁 solar!
Bit of an #allotment harvest this evening... We've taken our first proper pear harvest. Which doesn't make much of a dent in the crop! We have 9x of the Concorde, and 15x of the other unknown variety. We picked some last week and left them on the dining table a few days and ate them today, they were spot-on.... still crisp, yet sweet. Not quite sure what we are going to do with so many pears. We've already eaten more pear than we usually eat in a year... it just isn't something I buy, but now I have them I will gladly eat more. Obviously a bunch of other goodies harvested too. (I'll see what altbot makes of this and update ALT shortly...) image
Back at it. Was a bit late. Caught the peak tide. We both lobbed in mackerel traces for 45 mins, not a thing... both late in the year (tho there are reports of good mackerel here as late as end September) and also not the best time of day. I've just done another 30 mins with a small crab corpse on a flapper... but that doesn't seem to be doing it for anyone. I have a feeling we'd have been better off with some actual bait and flapper rigs, but probably much better off with a whole other tide... in a whole other country πŸ˜… Nice day for being sat on the beach tho. I am not a fan of the pebbles though. Very much not sandal compatible. Now we have the fishing gear sorted out again I will need to keep an eye on the tides and maybe we can nip up on a weekend when things look just right (Cley/Weybourne area is only 90 mins from home.) There is a "food fair" nearby so probably we should head off to that, and then we want to head inland and catch Norfolk Herbs before they close at 4pm. image
