Better do something with this 1.9kg #allotment berry harvest (and the freezer is still full of last year's berries.) This is mostly raspberries, some blackcurrants. Cooking them up with a kilo of sugar. Not got a specific plan of what to do with them next. Might seive, then put through muslin, then refridgerate. Cordial, jelly, something else? (We are not big users of sweet stuff, last year I did raspberry sauce, we open one occasionally, use maybe half on rare ice cream, and then the other half grows mould in the fridge. Need smaller jars maybe (or a lot more sugar?) image
Getting seedy in bed... it's that kinda day. Slow sore start after yesterday's efforts (ooooolllldd) meant we didn't catch the morning sun, now it is overcast and threatening rain, but is supposed to clear later. We plan to do a light evening allotment shift. Seemed a good time to go over the seed collection... pick out some things to sow in newly cleared #allotment spots now, things to plan for modules ready for late-late season and even overwinter crops, and assess empty packets too — 2026 shopping list. The year feels like it peaked too soon and now it's all downhill. Is it too late to put in some swede seeds? image
Did about a 4 hour stint down at the allotment and it wasn't fun and I felt like little was achieved. Which isn't really true, but how I feel is how I feel. Just finicky fiddly work. Got some wire on the new bit of front pallet fence, reusing some old chiken wire so that was a bit of a fight really. And secured the new front gateway posts with a light application of very approx C20 concrete... just enough to brace them at ground level really, with some rubble infill. I don't like using cement if I can avoid it, but in our soil for tall posts there isn't all that much choice (aside from designing things entirely differently of course.) Kat put in a mega effort waging the endless war on bindweed. No photos because we worked non stop and then it got dark. I hate that the days are shortening. Also bugs came out at dusk and tried to eat me. All very meh. Now trying to be arsed to cook dinner.
