I thought Satan killed Alex's dad? I am now getting a little confused. Although maybe it bolsters my theory that he'll simply leave the identity behind the mask a blank to the end.

Feels too obvious that "Satan" is the dad in disguise all along. He has been conspicuously absent. They made a point of making it clear it was the dad giving Dougie the video game that set everything else into motion.
Before I even finished typing that, that theory collapsed.

I love the two shot explanation from the director. Of course our minds fill in something far worse. It is what makes the scene so objectionable. He pulled off the sleight of hand too well, as it were.

Is Dougie rooting Satan on to lull him into a false sense of complacency? I mean clearly now Dougie has to see Satan as a rival and that's like to end with Dougie taking matters into his own hands.
Or maybe Dougie claws back his tenuous grasp on reality.

I love stories that accrete from odd ideas like that. Somehow knowing that happened here makes the quick establishment of the odd but necessaries a little more palatable. The point of what if is more how it plays out rather than how the starting conditions were achieved.

That scene was over the top any way you consider it. To the point of breaking suspension of disbelief. Feels like that was the point, punctuated by the killer mugging for the suburban family wanted to take pictures with the "decorations".
