#ChatControl proposal failed in the Council of the EU again today! 🎉 Hungary tried to use its presidency to shame critical governments into agreeing to the proposed mass surveillance by forcing ministers to explain themselves during live-streamed public session. This plan backfired: several countries took the floor to confirm on the record that this would undermine #cybersecurity, attack #encryption with #ClientSideScanning and violate fundamental rights! #StopScanningMe
Read this 🧵 by @Ella Jakubowska to find out the latest incredible developments on #ChatControl and help to spread the word! Don’t let Orban get away with pressuring governments into agreeing to this unprecedented mass surveillance proposal! #StopScanningMe
Congratulations to our friends in Finland. Following sustained civil society engagement by @Effi ry and others, the Finnish Parliament has officially sided against the current #Chatcontrol proposal! #StopScanningMe
We have concluded this year's #FreedomNotFear with a visit to the European Parliament. Some of the participants further used the time in Brussels to schedule individual meetings with members of the European Parliament to raise awareness about the topics we discussed during the weekend. Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed their topics & experiences and made #FNF24 possible! 📷 Petra Schmidt CC-BY 4.0 @petpet image
Like any barcamp, #FreedomNotFear is a self-organizing (un)conference. However, it is safe to say that this year's #FnF24 would not have happened without @mocksita, @Konstantin Macher and Tobias. They have been planning this event for months. Other volunteers have joined the planning team over time. If you can imagine making #FnF25 happen, do talk to them. We need you! Heartfelt thanks go out to Lara who stepped in as a facilitator when it turned out that @Wiebke Herding would not available this year.

We finally (re)convene for #FreedomNotFear today! We wish all participants a safe journey to Brussels and look forward to welcome you at the Mundo Matongé from 6pm (CET). During the opening evening, we will hear a keynote speech by Ella Jakubowska, head of policy at @EDRi, on what to expect in the next 5 years of EU policy! Tomorrow, participants of the #FNF24 barcamp will decide on the schedule for their sessions. Can't wait? Find a preview of sessions to expect here:
Keynote confirmed: We are proud to announce that Ella Jakubowska, head of policy at EDRi, will join the opening of Freedom Not Fear 2024 as keynote speaker on Friday! @Ella Jakubowska @EDRi We are looking forward to reconvene in Brussels for #FNF24 this weekend November 8-11. You can find a preliminary programme here: #FreedomNotFear
#EUPolicy in action: the European Parliament is hearing the Commissioner-designates soon. As @Friedemann pointed out, the answers of Commissioner-designate for "Internal Affairs and Migration", Magnus #Brunner, to a first set of written questions were disappointing when it comes to #DataRetention and #ChatControl. We encourage MEPs to demand a clear commitment to #DigitalRights instead! For more you can follow the live-coverage by @EDRi next week!
