Fun fact: If you’re a #Mastodon admin, you can browse through custom emojis installed throughout the #fediverse and even copy from other instances over to your own! TIL 🤯 :blob_cat_aww: :awesome: :ireview: :blobcatrainbow:
What the Hell is Going On with Framework’s Socials? You’ve probably heard of the Framework & fascism(?) debacle by now. Yeah, not great. At least the top brass has been making an attempt to engage with their critics. But what’s really gnawing at me is the fact that their social media team is *going nuts* on the former birdsite yet has all but abandoned Bluesky & Mastodon. In a town hall meeting last week, a Microsoft employee spoke up and said the company had recently “felt markedly different, colder, more rigid, and lacking in the empathy we have come to value.” Ya think?! 😂 Look, I once admired CEO Satya Nadella, but when I witness the steps Microsoft is taking to shoehorn “Copilot” into every nook and cranny of everything it produces…I see the actions of a company utterly bereft of quality leadership when it comes to design & UX.
“The whole computer industry wants to forget about the humanist side and just focus on the technology.” –Steve Jobs The once #Apple CEO gave one of the most engaging & enlightening interviews of his career on Japanese TV in 2001, shortly after unveiling the Titanium PowerBook G4 and many media apps. Yet finding an accurate and readable transcript of this interview, which often touched on topics of a personal and creative nature, has been all but impossible. Until now.
As if the horror show of slop machines serving as "companions" for incel bros needing a girlfriend or teenagers stuck indoors for hours on end because helicopter parenting and society is weird like that, you can now worry about the text extruders coming for your grandma or your great-uncle. Apparently the solution for the elderly suffering from acute loneliness due to neglect is to get them hooked on some tech company's substitute for genuine human interaction. 🫠
