One of the most egregious war crimes committed by TNG was how they mutilated the glorious monster maroon uniforms.
No undershirt.
No belt.
Okay, sometimes they remember the belt.
But that undershirt... often it's missing that ribbing along the neck... assuming the shirt isn't missing entirely.
The undershirt, specifically with the ribbing, brings it all together! Without it... I can't explain why, but it just... doesn't quite achieve it's greatness.
Voyager got it right.
_Voyager._
Though, to be fair, they were replicating a film that already existed; if it didn't look 90% right, it would have ruined the illusion. So they were under pressure.
But STILL.
...
Look, I'm sure there was a reasonable technical reason they didn't go full in on the ribs. No access to the original wardrobe elements... not enough time to get it custom made... and not feeling it mattered enough to make the effort. They can fudge it and say "well, it changed between then and now".
But honestly, I'd rather they just went with those ugly S1-S2 TNG uniforms everyone hated and call it a day.
Scorched earth. I'm _that_ petty.
