Someone brought up the idea of Batman v. Freddy.
Got me thinking...
Children begin mysteriously dying in their sleep across Gotham's numerous orphanages. Violent, bloody deaths -- large gaping cuts. It all happens so fast. No witnesses. No sign of entry.
Bruce investigates and discovers a pattern. He's able to anticipate the next victim. So he watches and waits outside the orphanage, setting up an electronic perimeter.
We see Freddy terrorizing a child in the dream world in some fucked up way.
Meanwhile, in the waking world: a blood-curdling SCREAM! But none of Bruce's perimeter alarms went off.
Wasting no time, the Dark Knight smashes through the window, shocked to find a child mysteriously floating above their bed, writhing and screaming, deep slashes being carved by some invisible force.
He knocks the child out of the air, waking them. Alive, at least.
Freddy is obviously FURIOUS... but his curiosity is piqued: a fellow creature of the night. He bets HE'D be fun to fuck with. A decent consolation prize.
After a couple close calls in the dream world, the last one leaving Bruce seriously wounded, he eventually concocts a chemical to dangerously super-suppress his own brainwaves while sleeping so he can't dream, blocking Freddy's access to him.
And then he'd bring in Dr. Fate and Constantine, all of them struggling to exorcise Freddy, but eventually succeeding.
Post-credit scene: hidden in the shadows, The Ventriloquist slumps over, deep cuts across his face and throat. We tilt down, a gnarly Freddy Kruger puppet on his hand, it's puppet mouth laughing for a beat before lunging for the camera.
Cut to black.
