Some AI booster dude just used a startup I worked for to make an argument on LinkedIn that AI's immune from crashing like the 2000-era dot-coms. I'm about to tear his whole post apart from stem to stern... tomorrow morning, when the largest possible audience will read it. ⏰
Just made my own tortilla chips (totopos). A/B tested deep-fried vs. air-fried. Fried were more greasy and uneven. Air-fried were dryer but pretty uniformly cooked. Best were basically par-fried until hard and then finished off in the air fryer. A total of 75¢ worth of tortillas and oil made a big bag of chips. Just so, so easy. Next up: to buy a molcajete so I can grind up my own salsas.
#A11y folks, sorry I won't be coming to CSUN this year. I'd already made plans to be out of the country as much of this winter as possible, and the idea of crossing borders any more than I absolutely need to at this point does not spark joy.
RE: ICE has an unlimited budget and exists literally to make non-US citizens’ lives miserable. They will be taking people from their $2000 seats for expedited deportation, based on face scans. They operate on quotas, and will look for any excuse to find legal immigrants and visitors deportable. The Supreme Court has allowed ICE to stop people based on race and accent. There is no hope of a positive interaction with an ICE agent if you are non-white. Seriously, don’t come. View quoted note →
DID YOU KNOW: You’ve heard of sunsets because they cause those annoying reflections on your TV, but did you ALSO know that apparently sometimes in the morning there’s a thing called a “sunrise” that’s actually kind of nice image
Speaking of livid, OpenAI using “Les Fleurs” by Minnie Riperton for a ChatGPT ad has me in a mood
UK, Australia and Canada are apparently coordinating to ban X. Kinda feels like one of the like 3% of issues where I’m going to be absolutely livid to read EFF’s position.
So, about Greenland. Besides natural resources, which they have in abundance; Due to climate change, Arctic sea routes are going to be passable regularly enough to become shipping lanes. So, yeah, China would like to skip canal passages, and Russia would probably love to mess with China-NA-Europe commerce. Greenland is a major strategic land mass up there. Meanwhile, 99% of what I'm hearing from the left is "hur hur Trump can't read Mercator projection" and that's just really not useful.
