He grew up in Rufisque, near Dakar, and began his career in the 1970s. Lô gained fame as a solo artist after leaving the group Super Diamono in the 1980s. Known for his soft voice and mastery of the guitar and harmonica, he blends traditional Senegalese music with folk, pop, and mbalax influences. One of his most famous songs is "Tajabone," released in 1990. Sung in Wolof, "Tajabone" is a gentle, emotional ballad about reflection, regret, and redemption. It refers to the Islamic celebration of Tajabone, where children parade in the streets.
