Take the action to own your own computer, even if it is using older hardware. A system with PC3 or PC4 memory can perform just fine for most tasks (especially if you have 16GB of more). Use your own hardware. Run Linux or BSD. Take action to remain free. Use encryption. #linux #bsd #netbsd #hardware #memory #cypherpunk View quoted note →
"We are currently in the midst of governments finalizing the negotiations with corporations under what terms they will dictate cyberspace to the public. What is good for the public, never mind what the people actually want is irrelevant to this process. The presumption is that a state’s “digital sovereignty” and corporate “innovation” are vastly more important than the interests of the people. This is why all ‘safety’ reforms for cyberspace will inevitably fail to actually increase safety, they’re not really intended to. In fact, the most likely outcome of these ‘reforms’ is to be highly dangerous to the public in more insidious and difficult to quantify ways." from longer post by @Libre Solutions Network #cyberspace #cyberpunk
I just got off the phone with a customer who is going to have me switch his computer from Windows to Linux. Also got a payment today for a Linux laptop that I'll be shipping to another state. There is a lot of movement away from Windows. I hope the trend continues. #Linux #Windows View quoted note →
This is a customer's computer. He's been quite happy with a refurbished Dell Vostro 230 desktop for years with Ubuntu Mate. He only got it to me because there was a power outage while he was applying updates and he wasn't sure how to fix the broken package state. I fixed that, then upgraded from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, as the Firefox snap was broken. The upgrade to 24.04 fixed that. Works fine now. Intel Core 2 Duo still kicking and in active use. #Linux #Ubuntu #MATE image
