To give you a break from all my bear photos, this is Mama sea otter with her grown pup. Photo taken during a private photo tour last month. #SeaOtters #photography #wildlife #nature #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #Canada #VancouverIslandWildlife #WildlifePhotography image
Black bears can wait patiently for long periods of time for a salmon to get trapped in shallow waters or narrow spaces. Then, all the sudden, the bear jumps into action. They have to be quick and precise. This bear seemed very proud of its catch. After it caught the salmon, it jumped on the sandstone in a victorious move. It almost looked like a happy dance. #bears #photography #wildlife #nature #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #Canada #VancouverIslandWildlife #WildlifePhotography
Today I sorted hundreds of photos taken in the past 2 months of black bears during the salmon run, which is not over yet by the way. So this is kind of a warning that I am going to post a lot of bear photos in the coming days... 😁 I really like this one. #bears #photography #wildlife #WildlifePhotography #WildlifeWednesday #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #Canada #VancouverIslandWildlife image
Another epic day in my life as a wildlife photographer: woke up at 4 am, drove in thick fog at night to get to my favourite spot for wapiti. Got there at sunrise, saw a few separate herds but too far for good photos. Walked in the forest and stepped in a pile of wapiti shit. Later on my camera attached to my tripod fell in the stinky mud. No damage, just dirt. Never a dull moment. Had a great time! 😁
One of my best images of a Northwestern crow (Corvus caurinus). Taken this month during a private photo tour with a group of photographers from Belgium. #birds #wildlife #photography #nature #Ucluelet #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #Canada #VancouverIslandWildlife image

Honk! Canada geese (Branta canadensis) flying away in an estuary on Vancouver Island. Photo taken this month. #birds #wildlife #photography #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #VancouverIslandWildlife image
We interrupt your regular program for this important announcement: I've finally managed to photograph a Pacific chorus frog aka Pacific tree frog (Pseudacris Hyla regilla). It was hiding in a large patch of salal, which by the way produce delicious berries full of antioxidant. #photography #nature #wildlife #frogs #VancouverIsland #BritishColumbia #VancouverIslandWildlife image
I recently witnessed amateur and wannabe pro photographers being too close to black bears in the wild. They prevented the bears from catching salmon, foraging for crabs and feeding on grass. This type of selfish behaviour is detrimental to the survival of bears that need to fatten up before winter. There is also a risk of conflict resulting in injuries or death. Please respect wildlife, avoid disturbing their routine, let them eat and rest, keep your dog on a leash, and keep your distance!
