I will be a grandfather in about a month. Mini me lives about 3 hours away. At the moment not sure I'll get to see her or baby anytime soon.
The thought crossed my mind to drive down and visit them.
But instead I called. Spoke to her partner for a bit as she was still sleeping.
He's a bit nervous and anxious. He's about 4 years younger then she is, so probably feeling a bit ill prepared.
We chopped it up a bit about his work stuff, small apartment, they will need to move basically within weeks of having a baby if timelines prove accurate. He's kinda nervous and worried about a lot of things that are unimportant. I was the same when I was bringing mini me into this world at an event younger age of 20 (think he's about 26).
"That's normal" I assured him. You guys will be just fine. I felt the same way when I was in your place.
I've been so wrapped up in other things, that I haven't had a chance to let the whole grandfather thing sink in yet. Maybe I'll get a book on it for the trip back.
#WWAGGDO What would a good grand dad do?!
6 hours on the road or tend to affairs of the house.

When you live in a sunny, warm, place that is close to the beach. Expect to have a lot of weekend guests, daily visitors and always having people around.
A problem you don't have when you live in an expired coal mining town that is generally cooler and far from the beach.

I have a text thread going my sister (probably as old as this phone by...now >5 yrs).
Sister #1: bro, what r u doing today?
Me: right now, posted up on the cliff with binoculars and the dogsters watching the night animals crawl into their dens and the 2 legged animals come out for their morning runs/walks.
Sister #3: you spent all that to get up there with her to sit in the woods at 5am with binoculars?
Me: Yup!
They don't understand. I have two mistresses. And I love them dearly. They are peace and quiet.
A minimum of 3 cold showers a day, going through 5 t-shirts and consuming a gallon of water (literally) every day.
What one must do when living in the sunshine state to stay conscious and capable. While still managing to shrink by 25lbs (in 4 months).
Yes, maybe I'm a bit more nimble, but most def feeling physically weaker. It's both interesting and scary how fast one's body adapts to its environment.
I did some work around the house yesterday and my body parts are speaking to me very loudly this morning. Like "Bro, what were you thinking man?!"
I like to think. Maybe I should learn to write/edit?!
I'll add that to my to do list.
