Is it true that Europeans don't care if they have a comfy bed or sofa, and people from the U.S. do? Jessica Furseth, a Brit with an American partner, makes the case for [@Dwell]( ). "Great mountains of stuffing and cushions are not very inviting. I don’t think it’s very comfortable for a social area," says Rachel Watson, who's just returned to England after 17 years in San Francisco. "You end up really squashed together, whether you want to or not. Maybe it’s because we’re British, that we like to keep a little bit of distance with a firmer sofa?" The verdict is on on "The Paper," the spinoff from NBC's "The Office." "'The Paper' doesn’t really work as a direct 'Office' replacement, since even at its strongest, it never remotely approaches the comedic levels of its parent show," writes [@RollingStone]( )'s Alan Sepinwall. The Conservative premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, has accused the Edmonton Public School Board of "vicious compliance" after the board banned 200 titles in response to a directive to remove books that are not age-appropriate from library shelves. Smith highlighted graphic novels such as "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe to illustrate the type of books she meant, but the board removed classics like Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale," Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” and F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby." Smith said: "They have obviously put books on there that there was never any intention of having them target those books." Public School Board chair Julie Kusiek said that the list meets the criteria set out by the government and consequently that "several excellent books will be removed from our shelves this fall." She urged those unhappy with the removal or criteria to contact the Minister of Education and Childcare directly.
