“The new ‘War of the Worlds’ has achieved an unholy trinity of critical failure: a 3 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 6/100 score on Metacritic, and Letterboxd’s second-lowest rating ever recorded,” Austin Gayle writes for The Ringer. It’s safe to say Gayle didn’t like the movie. In fact, he hated it so much he compiled a list of the 21 worst things about the worst movie of the year. Many public libraries — including the one in San Antonio — have stopped charging late fees, which is a good thing for one family. An individual based in Oregon posted "Your Child, His Family, and Friends" back to the library, 82 years after it was due, saying that they had found it in their father's possessions after his death, and that the book must have been borrowed by their grandmother. I hope there is no late fee for it because Grandma won't be able to pay for it anymore," the writer said. The library said that had they still imposed fines, it would have been in the region of $900. The 1940s parenting book will now be donated for sale at a used book store. Here's more from [@CBSNews]( ). #Books @bookstodon group #History @npub1uc0p...cpgf #SanAntonio #Texas

Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the fictional Night City, California. If you strip away the heists, AI mind transfer and combat, [@aftermath.site]( )'s Jay Cockburn says what lies beneath is... a really well designed city, with walkable public spaces full of restaurants and retail. Developer CD Projekt Red had two urban planners on the team for the game. Cockburn talked to environment art director Kacper Niepokólczycki about their role, and considers whether real cities could learn anything from Night City. "If we want our cities to be more than just functional – if we want them to be fun – we should take a long hard look at the rules and regulations that govern how we build and evolve those cities. I think we would find many of them are getting in the way of creating places that we can truly live and play in," Cockburn concludes. #Games #VideoGames #Gaming #UrbanPlanning #Cities #Lifestyle

Not very many." #DavidByrne #Music #TalkingHeads #Culture #PopCulture #LiveMusic
U.S. President Trump has announced this year's Kennedy Center honorees: Gloria Gaynor, George Strait, Michael Crawford, Sylvester Stallone, and Kiss. Trump says he will host a ceremony honoring them in December. "I shouldn’t make this political. Because they made the Academy Awards political and they went down the tubes. So they’ll say, ‘Trump made it political.’ But I think if we make it our kind of political we’ll go up, OK? Let’s see if I’m right about that," said Trump.
