The transporters in Star Trek can't work in real life due to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (if you know exactly where something is you can't know how fast it's moving) so in The Next Generation shows they mentioned 'Heisenberg compensators'. When asked how these compensators worked the writers replied "Very well, thank you".
