I thought this was interesting, especially the part toward the end, where he addresses Nick's Somalian daycare reporting. Not that the fraud isn't at all real, or that the government of Minnesota shouldn't have tried harder to prosecute it (they were bringing cases), but the sort of risable, shallow, bling-bling, MAGA-style format all of Nick's reporting seems to have. Very much sort of hit-and-run-do-it-for-the-lulz journalistic mentality. 4chan journalism. Generally, the hamfisted, indifferent way the Trump administration has behaved toward the Democratic-run states and foreign countries, has done a lot to undermine my opinion of the current US government. I sometimes do see that their arguments have some sort of actual, logical point, but there is value in avoiding scandal and treating other people respectfully, even if you dislike them. Others are watching and taking notes. On that note: Don't put heads of state in track suits for your stupid Twitter photo op. Have some class.
I don't understand Americans posturing online about the 2nd Amendment and how their revolution against an oppressive regime, to instate self-rule, should be a positive example for the world... And then, whenever some people try to free themselves (except Palestine, for the obvious reason), they rush online to demand everyone immediately capitulate and learn to love their own oppression or annexation. The American Revolution went on for 8 years, was constantly plagued by desertion, starvation, and soldiers freezing to death, and the loss of life was absolutely enormous. It was also initially highly unpopular. And they only ended up winning because the French began supporting their efforts. *Yes, it was a foreign, imperial empire siding with the Colonists, that decided the war's outcome.* There's a reason why one of the most important places in Washington D.C. — right across from the White House — is called "Lafayette Plaza". Would they all go back and say, "Stop fighting, bro. Freedom is bullshit. Not worth it. Besides, you don't want people to say the naughty Frenchies helped you, do you?" Perhaps they would. I, for one, would like to take a moment to thank the French. It was worth it.
